Oxford BCL and Cambridge LLM Applicants 2009

Really? Congratulations is in order. Apologies for our recent comments upon your integrity but we assumed that it may have been someone seeking to wind up the nervous Oxbridge applicants!

May we inquire as to your background/qualifications etc? What are the conditions attached on your offer? Which college are you hoping for and are you waiting for decisions from anywhere else?

Congratulations!

Hey,

Thanks very much - didn't mean to wind up anybody, I know how nervous the wait is. I have already graduated with my first, so I am guessing conditions are just financial and getting into a college. Have not received official e-mail or letter so I don't know for sure. Good luck to everyone else!

No problem.

First from which Uni, may I know? Any prizes or editorial post?

Congratulations, englishboy!

People, I have a question...concerning language proficiency test, does it have to be submitted in the application process? or it can wait until they give one a conditional offer? I'm talking about Oxford. (cambridge clearly stated this possibility) can someone please tell me?

Congratulations, englishboy!

Hi,

Yes, Cambridge offered the possibility of submitting your test results afterwards. I for instance did the test after submitting my papers to Cambridge. The offer will then be conditional on getting the minimum score.

Oxford does not offer this possibility. At least, that is what I make of it. You can always ask for an exemption from a language test but I do not think the odds for that are high.

Conclusion: you need the minimum score already if you want to apply Oxford.

Hope this helps

Do you think it would lessen our chances if we called or emailed and stated that we need a quick decision?! That seems to be why Englishboy has found out so early?

i think it would probably depend on whether you have a legitmate reason which they considered to be good enough to warrant a quick decision to be made. In my opinion it would be a situation like you have already had a few offers at hand where the deadline for the acceptance of those offers are fast approaching. To be honest, unless it's some genuine unforeseeable circumstances I don't think it's advisable to do so. Not only does it make you sound desperate but they would also wonder why you didn't inform them about it beforehand when you submitted your application form.

Just my 2 pence.

My experience is with Oxford that they do the same as Cambridge. I've (knowingly) sent IELTS results which were too low with my application and all I got was a conditional offer. A friend of mine didn't even enclose any language results with her application and still got in, also of cours with the respective condition.

Good luck to all of you,
L.

Im currently doing the MJur and I actually got language conditions in Cambridge and LSE, too. And I know from others who did so and even finally passed IELTS like three or two weeks before they arrived in Oxford. I've never heard from someone who didn't get an offer due to a missing language test.

That is great!

Just that Cambridge and LSE (like all other universities) make it explicitly clear that language tests can be taken later too.

However, confusion persists with Oxford because of lack of clear words on this, even though I have shared similar views in a post above.

Ok I know that all depends on the conditions attached to the offer but does one still need to take an IELTS exam despite having spending 3 years of higher education in UK with English as the medium of instruction? I know that LSE doesn't require you to take the exam while Oxford most certainly does, but what about Cambridge?
