I believe that I am the only person on this thread who still has the button and it feels terrifying. Please tell me there's someone else??

its YOU who is holding up all the decisions haha! i'm sure your button will dissapear today bud don't overthink it. chances are buttons were decided based simply on order of submission and the team is going down the list and double checking everything still.

...sigh. On the bright side, the anxiety will only last today. If no email comes today I can move on with my life knowing that i've been rejected.

To everyone feeling anxious about their button still being there - there are people whose buttons disappeared days ago and there are still no offers in sight. Clearly, there is no way to know what the button disappearances or their timings mean. It’s best to not worry about it now, and it might be better for everyone’s nerves to avoid checking the portal. The outcome will not change either way, and we will find out what we need to know via e-mail! I think we’re complicating it unnecessarily. Deeeep breaths, people, and best of luck! :D

Thank you for the words of encouragement! I am now praying for an offer not just to get into Oxford but also to bury this cursed button theory and save the sanity of future applicants!

The button should be re-named as the Button of Torture. There’s hardly anything magical about it

I am trying to calm myself, and be realistic about what I could have done better. I am not blaming myself for any of these, I thought they were true at that time. My written work covered a huge topic (the rule of law and pandemic), I could have targeted a more limited subject for 2000 words. My research areas are criminal law and human rights law, my written work does not have a direct link with my interests that I have stated in my personal statement. Finally, one of my referees submitted the letter after the deadline on the same day; I know the website says two letters are enough but maybe they prioritize applications with three letters. I cannot change any previous experience. I believe that I will be stuck in the waitlist, I am ready for a rejection (I could have handled the documents better.), I will be happy with an offer. In the end, whatever will be, will be.

Here I am! I am an MJur applicant, the button has never disappeared.

I'm just like you! You're just like me!
I have the same research interests and I also feel like I could have done better in my written work. I'm not entirely sure about how big a role it plays in the selection process. But there is no use crying over spilled milk (the milk being the fact that our applications have already been submitted) but our feelings are totally valid. I am definitely trying again next year. I've been through the handbook and seen several candidates with masters degrees (doctorates even) which goes to show that the BCL is unpredictable although right now not in our favour.

I also wrote my written on something quite expansive and profound, whilst not being a direct example of my research interest. My written was on democracy in the EU, and my interest was centred on computational law (and I feel the EU is the main player in this arena).

Speaking of written work, how much weightage has usually been given to it in the past? Any way of finding out?

I applied under the pretext that it was grades and references that mattered the most.

I wonder what standard the written work is marked to. Are they expecting something that they would award a First to in the final year of the BA, or something that would get a good mark on the BCL itself

Just got an offer for the DPhil. No button disappearance as far as I know (I checked yesterday at 11 pm for the last time).
