Well, it seems that rejections are on their way for us, then.

Do they tell you why you were rejected? What in your application that wasn’t good enough?

I don’t know but I would assume that they don’t because they receive so many applications.

BCL/MJur family, any button disappearances?

Nope, still there. Any idea what is the weightage of the written work compared to grades, CV, references? Not sure if my written work from my undergrad is 'Oxford' level!

Congratulations to those who got the offer! Good luck to those on the waitlist, and for others, I really hope you have all the love and support you need :)

you’re very kind! As for the answer to your question, the importance of the documents differs from person to person. They all play a role in the decision, but It’s a given that your CV and SOP rank less than the other factors. This was discussed in several threads and I was also fortunate enough to contact a DPhil student about this too. So here’s what I gathered:
1. Your academic performance is your key defining feature. They are looking for the cream of the cream, so outstanding grades (almost always a first) will serve you well. This is only for BCL, there are other courses that consider second uppers.
2. Your references. This has been debated, but what I gathered is, what your previous tutors have to say about you matters. They do not have to be professors with thousands of publications. It has to be someone who KNOWS your academic capabilities in and out, like a tutor, your dissertation supervisor etc.
3. Your written work. This is used as a yardstick, mostly when you are neck and neck with another applicant. Strong analytical abilities and critical thinking, plus devotion to your passion in writing will give you a competitive edge.

I hope this helps! I consulted with my university and they said it would be best to upload a piece of writing that was already graded, so I uploaded an extract from my thesis. I totally get you, I kept reading it after I submitted my application and all that did was create imposter syndrome. I’m sure we’ll be fine!!!

I read that the average of a person applying for LLM in these colleges is around 26, I applied at 24. Did i apply to early for this? Any tips for applying a second time since almost the whole academic profile will be same.

Thank you so much for this reply, it is really helpful. Very grateful for this! And I hope our results turn out favourably ????

absolutely not! A lot of people who applied to Cambridge were 24 too. :)
If I apply again, I believe this is what I would improve upon. We can’t change our grades, but we can focus on so many other aspects that will make our applications stand out.
1. Publications- start with local peer-reviewed journals and build your way up to international ones. Make sure you focus on your an area that you are truly passionate about. Building your niche is key.
2. You can always complete an LLM at another university/institution and use it to your benefit when applying later. If you look at the student profiles, there are many who completed an LLM elsewhere and applied for the BCL.
3. As far as I am aware, professional experience is not a deciding factor in the BCL. However I think you would stand out by showing that you engage in work that is in line with your passion.
Hope I helped☺️

Congratulations! Didn’t know they’d be sending offers in the weekends… when did your button vanish?

I hope the wait isn’t stressing you out too much… I totally understand how horrible oblivion can feel. Try not to think about it and focus on something else. It’s not worth worrying over.

Hi all,

A long time lurker, since the 2021 applications cycle… My magic upload button for the MSc in Taxation disappeared on Wednesday (8 March) and I received an offer yesterday (a little over 48 hours after the button disappeared) at about 4:30 pm GMT! 1f603

I do believe that there is some credibility to the theory that early disappearance of the button translates into offers. However, since the offers are not automated but sent by course administrators, there may be some delays - so good wishes to all those who await to hear back! And of course, congratulations to all offer holders! 1f642
