NEW VISA REQUIREMENT FOR STUDENTS, ADDED MARCH 9, 2009, EFFECTIVE MARCH 31, 2009

naija

i have actually seen the new tier 4 form. it does not need u sending copies of a reference if u have a university certificate and/or transcript wen applying.

received my visa letter and lets just say, my fears were affirmed by it. the letter provides that i was accessed by certificates, transcipts as well as 2 references. the agency requires that student's provide each document as stipulated in ones visa letter.

quare: how do we reconcile all these without leavin out a vital document?

Try to get in touch with your school and find out if they can forward scanned copies of the documents to you via e-mail.

wow! i'm sure they''ll be a way out. They'd be aware of that at the embassy. Its best to hear from the horse's mouth. we have to find out from them what we should do.

I will apply in June as well! the sooner the better,,,but just after i pay the university fees because that was also a condition,,u have to pay the total amount or just part of your fees. Remember you need a receipt issued by university confirming this payment. And the bank statement should no be dated more than 28 days from the date you are going to apply for the visa.!!

good luck :)

ple remember the eleventh commandment --------------"thou shalt not submit any scanned or photocopied document(s)"
my advice to you is this,
you have your original certificates. you must tender this. go to the institution where u graduated from and apply for another transcript....it must be original bearing authorised signatures and stamps of your institution. The new visa form recognises that you may have been assessed by some references,it however states in a parenthesis that you can submit copies of these references.
just give it yiur best shot.
cheers!

temitope..thing is, i sent down certificate as well as my transcript, tho, i am yet to receive the visa letter, but i believe that i was assessed on both, hence my worries.
also av u applied for ur visa, if so, did u send ur original certificate?

I also included my transcript in my application but this was not listed. I am yet to apply, cant apply till 3 months to the start date of my programme. Do you know anyone who has applied yet.

Hi temitope, guess we re in the boat, I also submitted both after passing thru thick and thin to get my transcript but only my certificate was listed in my letter. i have howeva applied for another transcript just incase i need it to apply in june for an entry clearance., its currently beign processed , my institution is currently making me pass thru the bureaucratic process again for a second copy.
wat do you think? do you think its necessary submitting it to the embassy wen its not listed in the visa letter?

Hi Patto my own understanding is that you supply the documents the university assessed you by, which should be listed in your visa letter, mine only lists the certificates I applied with, so thats what I intend to provide. Also I would not be able to provide a transcript when I submit my application bcos my university only sends it to the institution that requires it (The British High Commission) not the candidate; am not sure if the commission would link my transcript to my application as the university was able to (My personal view)

howdy temitope,I quite share the same opinion with you, but hope the BHC also sees this from our own perspective. My understanding of the scenario from an article I read by the BHC just before they embarked on this PBS is that they want to be very sure not evry tom, dick and harry flies to uk in the name of studies, thus they want to ascertain that all institutions have objectively assessed a candidate b4 issuing an offer letter. candidates who do not merit admission by proper assessment may likely b denied a visa irrespective of the financial committment they have made aned how many millions they have in their individual accounts as maintanance funds. Now how do u proof you have been objectively and critically assessed academically without providing not just your certificate(s) but also your transcript both to the institution and to the BHC as proofs. That is why in the new form, they have provided a space for you to write how u were assessed. so I foresee a case whereby prospective students may loose entry clearance not on the basis of funds as it used to be , but on the basis that they were not properly assessed.so i think it may be logical to let them know your certificate and transcript were assessed and thus include them as evidences when applying to proove that you really merited the admission in the first place.
I personally would like to leave out the transcript because its not easy getting them tho i have applied for one already, but would they understand this, as they have warned that they shall not grant a clerance if necessary documents are not submitted neither would they call you to tender them. ( this is just my opinion) pls comment.

Im just wondering....isn't there someone we can ask all these questions at the commission to be on the safe side. i really believe there should be a way out of this...even an agency should have some valid information... like GEC or laurie green.

after reading through, i did not find anypart that makes it a condition stating the need to either pay a part of the fees or full, before one applies for student visa.
i think its imperative to get the visa first of all, before considering payment.

MAJDA 03:

With a student visa you can work only 20 works per week (part-time) and only during vacations you can work full-time.
You cannot work after you complete the course unless you work at the STUDENT'S UNION. You can also work ONLY if the work placement is part of your course and if the work placement is an assessed part of the course.
Here its what it says literally about any other type of work in the UK with an adult student visa: (PAGE 13, POINT 54-63)

TYPES OF STUDY AND WORK PLACEMENTS

Student union sabbatical officers
54. A student union sabbatical job is a full-time, salaried, elected executed union position. You may take this job during your studies or in the academic year inmediately after you graduated.
55. If you take the job while you still have time left in your permission to stay as an adult student, your approved education provider must let us know as they are responsible for you until your permission to stay runs out.
56. If you want to do the job at the end of your course, AND YOU HAVE NO MORE TIME LEFT IN YOUR PERMISSION TO STAY AS A STUDENT, you must apply again and emet the requirements of the category.
57. A sabbatical job is normally for one academic year and you may be given permission to stay as an adult student to cover this time. If you are re-elected after one year, you will have to apply again. You can only have the job for a maximum of two years.

WORK PLACEMENTS
61. You will be allowed to do a work placement as a part of your course of study, as long as the work placement is an assessed part of the course and the course is at an acceptable level for adult of child students.
The work placements must be no more than 50% of the lenght of the course in the UK. An example is if a course is two years long and the first year of the course involves full-time study, with the last year in a work placement.

HOPE THIS HELPS! BUT WELL NO, YOU CANNOT WORK AFTER YOU GRADUATE WITH THE STUDENT VISA UNLESS YOU WORK AT THE STUDENT UNION OF IF THE WORK PLACEMENT ITS AN ASSESSED PART OF YOUR COURSE OF STUDY. IF THE TIME LEFT ON YOUR STUDENT VISA HAS PASSED YOU HAVE TO APPLY FOR THE VISA AGAIN.

My interpreation of the Tier 4 guide:

I think that work placement which forms a part of your course assement and other work are dealt with separately.

Work place is restricted to up to 50% of the total length of your course.

Other work is limited to 20 hours per week during term time and full time during vacations. This work must exclude filling a permanent full-time vacancy, self-employment and a few other things -- therefore temporary work is allowed.

The adult student visa for a 12 month course allows you to stay an additional 4 months after completion of the course (2 months after completion of a 9 month course). If this 4 month extension is considered vacation time, you may be able to work full time during this period.

I know a lot of people have been wondering about the maintenance requirements (at least I was wondering about it, lol) and whether they needed to have the full amount of money in cash before application. I have inquired at several schools and it seems that in many cases a letter reflecting that the student has been certified for student loans will suffice in place of having the full sum in your bank account. This may be a regional thing for US students (I'm really not sure), but it's worth checking into to see if you can avoid having to obtain the full cost in advance..

I know that Kings and Nottingham have pdfs which specifically state this principle, while UCL has confirmed it to me through email. I still haven't seen anything about it on UKVisas, but it seems that the schools are comfortable with our ability to demonstrate maintenance through loan letters.

Thought I'd let you know what I've found.
