Official word: Every applicant to the MLF and BCL will hear by 5:30 UK time tomorrow for sure.
Have you called them finally?

But they contacted successful applicants first so I'm guessing it doesn't take 5 days to contact 30 people and, therefore, those of us who haven't heard yet should probably hope for the worst.
Congrats to those with offers already. Well done :)

I applied for the mjur programme and I suppose that also mjur applicants will receive news by tomorrow, 5.30 pm...am I right?
Posted Mar 18, 2011 09:38
Do you guys think that they reserve places for late applicants (the second deadline applicants)?
If that's the case, they will offer admission to less than 30 people! :((

Rejected :(

I should have kept my mouth shut! rejected as well!

Rejection......
Posted Mar 18, 2011 17:29
Rejected. Last year, waiting list, this year, rejected directly.
This double deadline is pretty much unfair.
Those who are most committed to going to Oxford applied in the first deadline, so we run against the BEST candidates. They should not reject us directly, but put us to run against those of the second deadline. REALLY unfair...
Lawmann, start mockering me! And let us know about your friend, ok?

Hi, Emanuel
Very sorry to hear that you got rejected too. My friend was rejected too.
Oxford is simply impossible. I noticed that almost all who wrote in this thread got rejected. No one knows how the Admissions Committee decides on the applicants.
Are you going to apply again next year?
I suppose you should consider the University of Cambridge's inagural intake for the Master of Corporate Law ( MCL) for 2012/2013.

Lawmann,
I am not giving up trying it later. Right now, I am envolved in an Union election that is very important (say $$$). After it, I will decide what to do. Right now, I am considering applying to a Doctorate in education in my city, and resuming a doctorate in Civil Law at Universidad de Buenos Aires (I was admitted, but due to personal problems, I did not go to any class so far - but my spot is waiting for me).
There are other two or three options in my country, but in Sao Paulo, in more well-known Universities (USP, PUC, FGV).
About Oxford, what surprises me most is that last year I made the waiting list. This year, my curriculum was improved (I even won a prize of "Lawyer of the Year" in my State) and I did not hit the list. I guess not only God has mysterious ways!
I will write you in your private email, so we can discuss it better.
Regards

Waiting list...
Posted Mar 19, 2011 22:06
Hey guys/gals,
Yesterday, I finally heard that I am on the waiting list. Since I am new to this whole process, I am wondering whether anyone has any idea of the chances of eventually getting an offer. I presume the chances are pretty slim. If I were to make a waiting list, I would make sure the list was as long as the number of actual places, so as to make sure that all the places will be filled. If that is the case, the prospects for us on the waiting list are pretty bleak.
At the moment I am not in total despair. I have just turned 23 and still have options for the coming year, and since I only applied to the MLF this year, I will definitely apply to various LLM programs next year.
Anyway, congrats to all of you who got in, and I am looking forward to your replies :-)

You are quite right. Chances are low, but I know some waitlisted candidates last year were eventually offered a place. I was waitlisted last year and admitted this year. Good luck with everything!
Posted Mar 20, 2011 14:43
I, too, only applied for the MLF without considering any other LLM programmes. However, I will certainly be applying next year and would be in a better position to do so after graduating with my LLB this year.
Squirrel- interesting point on people getting admitted from the waiting list last year. Do you know how many were offered a place and how soon did they hear?
Congrats on your offer! What do you think improved this year in terms of your application? Would appreciate some tips and advice. Feel free to message me if you don't want to put too much on here.

@ Squirrel
Congrats on your offer! I just resigned to the fact that I will not receive an offer this year. On the one hand it is encouraging to hear that some people were admitted of the wait list last year. On the other hand, it seems irrational to invest all your hopes in an option that is really a plan b (ie getting off the list). The MLF site states that 'some people' were admitted last year. I assume 'some' will not comprise of more than 4 students. Considering that the wait list might be as long as 30, the chances of me getting an offer now might be around 10%.
Anyway, this is all wild speculation since I am omitting all sorts of relevant variables, but it seems that it is the only way to create some order in total uncertainty.
Could you please tell me how you dealt with being wait-listed last year?
@SleekGeek
Sorry to hear that you are wait-listed, too. But I feel encouraged to apply for more degrees next year. I guess I should have realised the competition would be fierce for the MLF.

Sleek Greek - I graduated with the best mark and tried to improve my SOP/CV/ESSAY. i'll give you my email if you'd like to know more details. I don't know exactly how many waitlisted people were eventually offered a place, but I think what SBJS says is a good guess.
SBJS - Thank you! At the beginning of the waitlist process it's assumed that your silence means you want to remain in the waitlist; then, towards May/June, when all succesful applicants have paid the non-refundable deposit, it's the opposite (i.e. your silence means you no longer want to remain in the waitlist). If you're still there, In September you'll be given the final answer. Since you've got nothing to lose by remaining in the waitlist, my suggestion is to remain there till the end. As a waitlisted candidate last year, I was then encouraged to re-apply.
Competition is fierce, but don't give up, at least not immediately!
Hope this helps. Good luck to everyone!

Squirrel,
congratulations! Last year, I made the waiting list too, but this year, unlike you, I was simply rejected. Would you mind giving me more details? Could be by private message, if you would prefer so. I am considering applying next year, again! (Do not say a word, Lawmann!)
Thank you!

With no bull market in sight, does a specialized finance LL.M. still make sense?
