I'm in the process of gathering paperwork too, but owing to the insane pressure of my current job - barely getting time to sort things.
Had one frivolous query, how does the letter of recommendation work? I'm getting my reference from the head of law school - and cannot bother him repeatedly for each university.
Can I get one recommendation letter from him, and send a copy to every university? Or he has to personally write to them?

i think it's ok to hand in a copy for all schools, but they like it if the recommendation is addressed to that school specifically.
i just got my IELTS grades today and i really have no clue has to the " gathering of paperwork" you all were talking about... is it that hard ? what should i gather?

Carnivaz that's what I was aiming to do as well, I'll prolly just have a chat with the professor and see how far along the limb is he willing to go, cause I am sure this is a busy time for all of them, with universities starting again
Our options pretty much depend on the professors I say :-)
Anyone here applying to US universities as well?

US Universities are way too expensive but I am thinking about Berkeley and Chicago...just to see whether I get in but I really don't think I can afford them...

Given that I've already been through the application process, I believe I can address some of the points/doubts raised in this thread:
1. Letters of recommendation
Focus on getting letters from professors that are really well acquainted with you and that can provide an excellent reference. Don't pick referees simply 'cause of the name or position of a particular person.
It is important that the letters are addressed to the university you're applying to. So, even if the essence of the letter is the same, you ought to change the addressee... don't send general letters.
2. 2011-2012 intake
Applications are likely to be open for the 2011-12 intake around mid-September or early-October. The colleges of the UoL are more likely to start in mid-September, whereas Oxbridge in early-October.
3. Fees
The fees increase every year (around 5%).
That's all for the time being. If you have any queries, PM me and I'll try to help you out.
Regards,

hi..i have just started gathering ideas for my SOP..any clue as to the word limit?
Posted Sep 09, 2010 22:38
here it goes:
KCL - myapplication portal sets a limit to the personal statement. I can't remember right now the number, but it's around 500 words.
QM - same as KCL.
UCL - UCL doesn't set out a limit to the personal statement, so you can elaborate a little more. Mine had around 1,200 words. Note that I applied by paper so my considerations are only for paper applications.
LSE - I can't remember right now exactly, but if I'm not mistaken the PS must be at least two to three pages (A4) long. Mine was very similar to the PS I used for UCL.

Hello everyone !
I'm also intending to apply to the foregoing colleges and have a query as regards the IELTS test.
Basically, is it required to provide directly the unis with the results thereof or may I send those later to them, say april / may 2011 ?
Thanks :)

hi skiia, i THINK that we can upload our results for now but must send original version of all submitted documents to whichever uni we end up going to.
Posted Sep 13, 2010 21:54
Sorry for the misunderstanding, I have not yet taken the IELTS test but intend to do so in march 2011 and wonder whether it is absolutely required to provide the unis with our IELTS results by the time of application ?

Personal statement is the document where you'll state the reasons why you want to pursue further academic studies... it is the most important document of all. It's where you have the chance to state your preferences and make the recruiters see that you've got what it takes to be made an offer.
