LSE, UCL, QM and Kings - applications for 2011-2012

Hello everyone !

I'm also intending to apply to the foregoing colleges and have a query as regards the IELTS test.
Basically, is it required to provide directly the unis with the results thereof or may I send those later to them, say april / may 2011 ?

Thanks :)

You can send in your IELTS results later (by July or August of the teaching year you're to enrol). The only setback is that any college will only make you a conditional offer (i.e., conditional upon you providing evidence of meeting the language requirements).

Hey, just have two additional questions.

- How should I adress my personal statement ? I have seen wordings like "Dear members of the board of Graduate Studies" and wonder whether it is appropriate for any uni or specific to only one.

- LSE and KCL for instance request academic references but is it possible to send in a professional reference issued by a lawyer with whom I have worked in the framework of an internship ?

Many thanks !

About the PS, I didn't address it to anybody. I just started writing.

Regarding the letters, I would send two academic references if I were you. UK universities tend to prefer academic reference. I'd only send in a professional reference as a third extra letter of reference.

Hi everyone,

I'm going to apply for a LLM in International Commercial Law and was thinking about UCL, QM and Kings, but because of my Spanish grades being so far (i'm in my last year) 6,6 over 10, I thought of also applying in City or Brunel in case I don't get in any of the first. I have good English (grade A in CAE), and I'm studying a double degree in Law and Business Administration in one of Spains best Uni's.

I'm also slightly concerned about asking my referees for four or five references addressed to each University, so I don't know if I should rule out anyone.

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

hello,
I am a student from india and i am planning to apply for the year 2011-12. I had a query about the reference letters, as to whom to address it? do i have to take different letters addressed to different universities and whether sending the same set of reference letters to all the universities is a good idea?

manasiganu, i would advise you address the letters to each university specifically. my referees basically used the same text for all but made specific mention to each university in the letter. if you look on the webpages you'll see that some unis have reference forms and specifically say whom to address them to (normally the graduate admissions board of each uni).
robertobj, i asked my referees for several letters addressed to different universities, one of them got a bit upset with all the signing but the other was fine with it. i guess it depends on the personality of each professor!
is anyone else having problems in king's online application portal? i have tried from 2 computers so i think its king's system thats not working. also, wasnt qm supposed to open on 1/oct? the llm application page still says that applications are closed.

I had problems with the King's application as well and wrote them an email. they said that the system is currently being tested and not yet running. They advised to apply after the 18th October.

In theory, a letter from a judge is welcome. But don't over do it... I mean, send at the most three letters and do try to impress the admissions office with a bunch of recommendations. Just so you know, I sent three letters and I think that was enough. It might even be that only two letters would've got me in just as well as three...

I agree, I think that a letter from a judge will be impressive but as a third extra reference. most of them are clear on requiring the references to be academic. i am sending a third extra as well, a professional recommendation. hope it helps!

heyy thank you :) i will surely take that into consideration. about the acad recommendation letters, do both of them have to be from my law college. I am also goin through a diploma course in ADR elsewhere, so getting a letter from one of the prof's there, would it count to be the same?

Hello everyone !

I will probably apply to specialized LLM programs but am not really sure which one yet.
I wonder whether mentioning in my personal statement which specialized program I want to apply to will limit my chance to get an offer to that specific program or if offers are general, i.e. you choose later your specialization ?

Thanks
