Why should Scotland's independence have any effect whatsoever on the reputation of its universities?

I#m worried that Scottish universities may become regionalized institutions. At least there are already discussion about whether Scotland will introduce high tuition fees for non-Scottish students:

Ok, this thead was a little premature! Interesting to see that Glasgow City and Dundee were among the few parts of Scotland that voted in favour of the independence.
