During my LLM Corporate Finance Law studies at the University of Westminster, I gained a fundamental understanding of corporate finance law and also international commercial law.
The LLM Programme allowed me to deepen my knowledge of advanced and contemporary issues related to corporate finance law; as well as the application of law to real cases, and ways of approaching and analyzing legal issues. During my LLM study, I focused primarily on trade finance, corporate finance, the legal regulation of foreign direct investment and energy finance law. Beside the core modules, which are Investment Banking and Legal Aspects of Corporate Finance, I had opportunities to choose elective modules from other LLM programs. In this regard, I studied Law Related to Payment of Trade and Finance from LLM International Commercial Law. In most of the lectures for corporate finance law modules, I had chance to meet lecturers from different fields of law. For instance, in Energy Finance Law, experienced lawyers from King & Spalding LLP gave lectures in the related subjects.
Apart from the useful modules, I wrote my dissertation about Energy Finance Law under the supervision of the course leader of LLM Corporate Finance Law, Joseph Tanega. With the help of his valuable comments and directions, I wrote a successful dissertation.
Furthermore, apart from my studies, I undertook an internship at the International Chamber of Commerce, thanks to the close relationship between the University and the organization. Through this internship, I have gained practical experience in legal and commercial fields.
In addition, I met a lot of new contacts through the LLM Corporate Finance Law programme. Students were from different cultures and different legal systems. Therefore, we have widened our point of views on finance and law.
Another excellent feature of this programme is the residential weekends at the Latimer Conference Centre. These weekends are held twice a year with interesting seminars on finance and law. In addition, they are highly worthwhile for networking.
All in all, the LLM Corporate Finance Law programme provided me with the knowledge and skills required by professionals working in corporate finance law, banking and finance, investment banking, venture capital and private equity. I feel extremely lucky to have studied LLM Corporate Finance Law at the University of Westminster.
