It really is.

Sending the letter of reference by post is ideal as it would contain the actual signature of your referee. That would be the best evidence of your reference letter. All other application materials may be submitted online.

The procedure elaborated by OJ will be good for all colleges except the UCL.
If u submit an online application at UCL, the references have to be submitted online too (not scanned copies) but by the referees.
If u want to send written/printed references, u may submit a hard copy of the form by normal post.
I had the same issue and was advice accordingly by the UCL through e-mail.
I hope this helps.

As discussed on the Oxbridge thread, British universities generally make earlier decisions on offers of admission than their American counterparts. As a rule, they tend to base their decision on your degree qualification or class of honours: for Oxbridge, LSE, UCL and King's, that roughly translates into a minimum of 2:1 (upper second class honours). In other words, they are more academically-oriented and decide based on law school performance. If and when you are offered admission into these institutions, you will notice that a number of admitted students graduated with either a first class or upper second class honours law degree.
American universities, on the other hand, tend to look at other qualitative factors such as quality of professional/academic experience or membership in the law review, among others.

Yes i agree i did the same thing. I applied by post because i couldnt ask my referees to submit the reference letters online. Both are very very busy people and just having them to sign my letters was a huge deal! They didnt have time to sit and write a letter in English, believe me! I wrote the letters myself and of course i tried to answer all the questions they asked and tried to look as good as possible. I dont know if many of you did this but in my case they trusted me and they just said write the letter and we will sign it.
I sent the documents via DHL it costed me like 100 dollars because i live overseas. I sent 5 applications to universities, all in the uk so u do the math. 500 dollars just to send the applications but well that what it takes and i had to do it!

Hey,
I'm current at UCL studying for my LLM in Public International Law.
So far it has been a blast, the lecturers are friendly, helpful and always engage in lively debate during lectures.
Of course being based in Central London is an added bonus, as there is always something fun to do. Meeting new people has also been great, I swear the UCL LLM is international, I've met people from all over the globe. There is also the chance to mix with other University of London LLM students via social events, and other interesting side activities.
As far as admissions go I say its nothing you can predict. I graduated from a UK University which ranked in the lower half of the league tables. I achieved a 2.1(Hons) Overall, with my best grades coming in my last year, by no means was I an example of a consistent student.
I applied to UCL, and to be fair I know of far more academically consistent people than myself who were rejected. UCL has a total LLM intake of 350 Students per year, and I heard their were over 800 applicants.
What I think got me in was first off, I met the grade requirements. But what was most important was my work experience. For example i'm studying the Public Int. Law LLM.
After graduating from my LLB, I worked for one year as an intern in West Africa in the Human Rights Field.
Now when it came to writing my personal statement I relied heavily on this, as well as ensuring my references were impeccable.

PUCCA you know what to do as soon as you receive (I am sure) Admission from UCL? :) Inform us immediately.
wow I was delighted with previous post. So if admissions office chooses ppl according to work experience and grades, I have good grades and about 5 years work experience. I hope I receive admission and if yes then goodbye Nottingham and Leiden lol

Good luck. I guess what I was trying to show is that admission process at UCL is not as linear as some people think.
Yes they do consider academics, however in crowded field you've just got to make sure your application stands out. That's not to to say people with no work experience will not be admitted because I've met plenty of people who have come straight from there LLB.
But whatever happens I'm sure UCL is the right choice. Although to be truthful there isn't much difference between UCL and the other two which make up the 'Big London 3' which are Kings College and London School of Economics.

Wat has been the experience of ppl who have submitted paper application to UCL? Does the college communicates the receipt of the same by an email confirmation or there is complete silence by UCL till the result is delared?
I had submitted mine on January 14th and I havent received any acknowledgment from them.......am very clueless at this point!

One thing you've got to do is be PATIENT.
I submitted my application in February 2008 via the internet. I believe I received my offer in June 2008. I know of some Nigerian students who submitted paper applications, from what I understand they were subject to the same wait as me.
One thing I was told when I did enrol at UCL was that the Law Faculty had been inundated with LLM applications and it had taken them alot longer to process eveyone than intially estimated.
So there it is, patience my friends. The UCL electronic application system from what I recall should update itself to say 'Application acknowledged' or something like that? But I can assure you that's all it will say until you recieve the official offer letter.
I estimate the latest you'll have recieved your offers should be around June.

The issue of whether i will get a offer early (approx mid of March) is ,in my case, a most crucial thing.i have no option except to accept the offers from US law schools.
If it is made in June than it will be certainly late.. lets pray for an early offer..
