Cambridge LLM 2019 - 2020 Applicants

Thank you so much for the info. But March 1 is the deadline for the faculty to release all the decisions. According to the LLM website: "All admissions decisions will have been made by the Faculty by this date. However, it may take further time before you receive formal notification from the Graduate Admissions Office via your self-service account. "

So we might have to wait for some more time also. Let's hope such a situation does not arise.

I opened my account sometime between 8 and 9 am GMT today, and it still said under review by department then. Sometime between 10 and 11 am GMT, that's when my account said it's awaiting approval from the GAO. That means my portal wasn't updated when my application went through the degree committee stage from the departmental stage. So for those still waiting for movement in their portals, it's possible that your applications are already with the degree committee and they just didn't update your portals.

Also, the admissions website says that the GAO approximately takes ten days to approve an application. If your applications move to GAO tomorrow, tomorrow's only the tenth day before March 1 which is the target date for Cambridge to release all decisions. I would say that the ten-day period is only the maximum turn-around time, it could take less than that. So, don't fret if you don't get any movement in your account just yet. :)

Best of luck to all of us!!

Mine is still “under review by the department”
Also, if your status changes to awaiting GAO approval, does it mean that you’ve got selected?

A friend of mine's status has changed to GAO stage yesterday and her last name begins with B, so I'm thinking maybe they are going alphabetically.

I’ve probably refreshed my Applicant Portal a billion times. The wait keeps getting worse and worse. Let’s all hope and pray for the best!

This might be. My last name begins with T and still no progress in the application portal.

Unlikely - my last name starts with an A and I’m still at the Department stage. I don’t think it’s possible to determine the basis (if any) on which they are progressing - it could be based on where you’re from, when you submitted, what your name is or nothing at all. Best to wait and pray, I guess.

I'm foreign, end of alphabet and applied at 5 December.

Maybe the order is just related to our applicant numbers what would be the most reasonable scheme for them??

I wondered about this question as well and found their 'verbal' descriptions of their admission process relatively confusing.
But this chart is very clear: yes!

Well, according to the chart, the application can be declined in any of the three stages: department, degree committee and GAO as well. Of course, I am hopeful that everyone here will be successful! :)

Unless we receive a change in our application status today or tomorrow I am no longer optimistic.

My theory based on the chart above ^ is that the person rejected earlier in the forum must not have satisfied the 'department review stage'.

The application portal seems to skip pass 'degree committee'.

So those who are 'awaiting approval' have clearly satisfied this stage.

Those who are 'under review' have failed at degree committee stage OR!!.... the department is simply taking it's time to process and update our portals.

The reason why I say today or tomorrow is because there is the 10 days processing time before 1st March, however there are contradictions on the website.

This post is not designed to dishearten, I could be wrong I really hope I am.

It is hard to tell, there seems to be no clear trend or pattern.

Hopefully one of us receives something in the next couple of days.

This won’t help, but here’s the tough love. How about everyone stops trying to come up with theories about this that and the other and sits and waits patiently. We will all get a decision (whether it’s the one we want) but there is NOTHING we can do now. This is no trend to the way these universities go through applications, generally it is randomised.

Truth has been spoken! Looking at the threads from previous years on this forum, the way Cambridge operates the LLM admissions is anything but an exact science. Let's just wait and keep ourselves updated on the latest status changes :)

I don’t mean to be rude here but, this is causing both yourself and others unnecessary anxiety so please stop panicking, it is obviously understandable that you want to study on arguably the best LLM programme in the world. At this point there is nothing that can be done aside from waiting patiently, also bear in mind that the GAO are all humans, there can be delays. Making sweeping assumptions will only scare you and others!

The reason universities generally look at applications randomly is for fairness, everyone’s applications will be considered!

I apologise if my post made you and others feel anxious, that was not the intention, it was not designed to be disheartening or to be anything more other than just a theory.
