Cambridge LL.M. Applicants 2022-2023

Thanks this is really helpful!

Has cambridge ever taken this long to respond in the history of LLMs? This is just crazy! Any update on acceptance/rejections?

This had happened in 2017 as well. I was an applicant then (reapplying now) and we were ‘under review’ till March end. I emailed the admissions office twice in March and got a response on April 1 that the Faculty of Law had recommended my application to GAO for an offer (but the status on the self service portal remained ‘under review’). We joked that this was an April Fools’ prank as we had been ‘under review’ for that long! A number of us eventually got conditional offers on April 10 (I couldn’t take it up for lack of funding), while others moved to GAO and got offers later.

I haven’t followed Cambridge’s pattern since then, but from what I have been reading on this thread, they have been releasing LLM results sooner. Not sure if this helps but because of my experience in 2017, I am just waiting it out as they do take their time.

Also, cannot comment on whether those of us still under review will definitely get offers, but I think we are closer to finding out now.

All the best to everyone waiting!

Same here. Still no shift from under review by department. The waiting is agonising…

Thank you for sharing this information.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

It would be appreciated if the university sent perhaps some standard circular email with even a terse update letting people know what is going on.

I think perhaps there’s a common misconception among international applicants thinking that accepting any uni offer in the UK is binding and that you might risk owing them money or get blacklisted or something like that if you later withdraw. However, this is not the case (only exception being that some unis require a deposit to be paid which might be lost - I’d argue that its a red flag if the uni needs to resort to these sort of methods to get a full class, though, and you shouldn’t be seeing this at Oxbridge). No one will chase after you if you accept an offer somewhere then a few months later go for a different uni. It is the nature of things that people spread their applications around and get offers at different times and that funding decisions will later change the applicants’ preferences, etc. They may mind if you go past summer in deciding, though -  especially if you were hogging onto a scholarship offer which could have ben handed down to someone further down on their waitlist. As for accepting an offer now and withdrawing said offer in May or so for various reasons, that would be more or less common practice and quite expected. They provide offers to around twice the number of seats that they’ve got due to this.

Thanks for this clarification! Although both Oxford's MSc in Law and Finance and Cambridge's Master of Corporate Law require excessive deposits. So unfortunately not that uncommon

Must admit I’ve never looked into the specific law and finance courses, although come to think of it, I vaguely remember a batch of waitlisted offers being sent out after the deadline for those deposits last year. I suppose the best thing would be to decide whether your current offer is more attractive anyway, standing on its own?

If you were hoping for offers both places and wanted to wait until you received funding decisions (funding for the mcl is very rare, i think?), I’m afraid those will generally come significantly later. I think the trust gave to their first mcl/llms last year around mid-late april or later, and oxford seemed fairly similar. Many decisions were not made until May-June, and I think the bursaries might have been even later in some cases. In other words, you might be forced to take a leap of faith on which one to bet on for funding regardless.

Out of curiosity I went to check out the 2017 thread that was mentioned here earlier. If I understood correctly from their chat, they had a 15th of March deadline instead of a 1 March. Still, I could feel the absolute agony they expressed for having to wait for decisions a couple of days too late... but our decisions are 21 days late...

I am afraid I am not optimistic enough to think they are done with rejections... it just seems that there are too many of us in this forum still.

But hopefully we'll get an answer this week!

Around 35 people liked the 'non-rejected' post, but there may be more who haven't made an account.

That seems to be on par with previous years, but there hasn't  been as many rejections reported.

There have actually been more rejections reported, I've been keeping a log.

2022 - 20 rejections
2021 - 16 rejections
2020 - 17 rejections

didn't bother going back further

Sorry for the confusion, but that sounds like great news? Albeit my expectations are currently very low.

"Thank you for your email.
I have looked into this and we are still waiting for some more information from the department. Please bear with us and you will get an update as soon as we can.

Thank you for your patience,"
