p.s Does anyone know what a sponsor license number is?

I think the sponsor license number is required for visa applications.

OK, just got my official letter.
It basically sets out the conditions of your offer. You also get a booklet explaining your offer conditions.
The letter shows which college your application has been sent to. I was disappointed to see that my application has been sent straight to my second choice college. As a consequence, I only get one shot. If I am rejected, I will be thrown straight into the pool. Has this happened to anyone else?

Hey guys,

Couple of points - firstly if you go to your CAMSIS after it has been updated and print off the cover letter, which you should send with every correspondence you have with Cambridge, then that cover letter will have all the ID and and admission numbers on it that you need. It also lists your individial conditions you need to satisfy, and a tick box next to each.

secondly - mainly for LLMblogger - my offer letter shows it was only forwarded onto my first choice of college. Maybe in your case the Board of Graduate Studies knew your first choice would not have space, and so just sent it to your second college..

Thanks, but no: The offer booklet says you should write down the admission number, whereas the cover letter only lists the student number and the application number.
It might well be that app and admission numbers are the same, but that, imho, isn't very clear!

Yes maybe that wasnt as clear as it should have been, so let me clear it up.

What i was getting at, if you read between the lines; is yes the offer booklet says that any correspondence you have with Cambridge should include your admission number, but what i am suggesting is, if you print off the cover letter and attach it to any of your correspondence then they will know who you are as the cover letter contains all the identification information.

I suggested this because i have done this just last week and had no problems as my CAMSIS has been updated accordingly.

If you don't mind my asking, where are you from? (as in UK, Europe, US...) .... just to see when I should expect my offer letter :)

I got the letter today, thankfully. I'm still a bit unclear on the way the funding is broken down though - £7605 for student maintenance, which the guidebook seems to refer to as food, clothes, books etc. How can this work if the £7605 goes directly to the University (or; does it?).

On a more general point, people who did the LL.M last year, how does the payment of fees work? Is it an upfront payment of £14k at the start of the year, or is it paid in chunks?

No, only the college and tuition fees do.

Really? That's interesting. So roughly £6000 (I'm talking home students here) goes the uni, I'm assuming in installments, and the £7k maintenance costs just stays in your bank account?

The tuition and college fees go to the university. The maintenance fee is just an estimate of how much you'll need to support yourself. Basically, they want to see that you can support yourself financially while at Cambridge. You do not have to give that money to anybody, you use it for rent, food, clothes, books etc.

Good to know - my law firm gave me a deferral fee of £7k, so that shouldn't be a problem. Thanks guys.

Hello,

Does anyone know someone who has done the LLM at Cambridge?

I understand most subjects in the LLM are assessable by a 100% exam at the end of the year. While I appreciate there will be a lot of reading etc to do throughout the course, is there much else to do, academic work-wise, besides going to lectures and tutorials if applicable? From reading other threads it sounds like most lectures tutorials only take a couple of hours a week for each subject.

Cheers!

Hi LLMBlogger. Kings was also my first choice. My papers were sent there last Tuesday but my Camsis was updated today to say that I was unsuccessful. Clare is my second choice. Hopefully I'll have better luck there!

I also got my letter of admission today.

Everhopeful: Check where the letter was sent from. Mine was via my first choice of college.

Anyone know how long it will take before the college reaches a decision? I would have thought (by now) most colleges have already decided who they are selecting and are just in the process of updating the online system.

DhivJ, just to let you know, I called BoGS today to check why my app wasn't sent to King's (my first choice) and they told me the college was full by the time my offer was confirmed (last Tuesday). So it looks like yours was one of the very last files sent there and they had next to no places left to fill. Hope you have better luck at Claire!

Everhopeful, congrats on getting the letter. Check just below Kate Maxwell's signature. That's where it should say cc: College X

hey guys!

Good to hear tha the application process is finally moving, however my camsis has not been even updated yet to state that an offer has been made, let alone the issue of the college mebership. Is anybody else in the same situation?

I am in exactly the same situation! I have not heard anything since that first email from Suzanne Wade. I sent her an e-mail and hope to hear from her soon. Did anyone apply to Magdalene?
