Hi,
I've heard that there are LLM-programs in Europe without tuition fees. Does anyone have more info?
Kat

Eg Germany! You pay up to 35,000 USD fees in the US and only 500 Euros in Germany and other countries in continental Europe.

Can you recommend any particular university in Germany?

Freie University Berlin. Berlin is really a great city to spend an LLM year!

You also have Humboldt (Berlin), Hamburg University and Cologne (these are the cities I like most in Germany...)

German state universities do not charge any tuition fees. Also Swedish state universities do not charge any tuition fees. I guess, even Finnish universities do not charge(but not so sure).

I think some Germany states universities do have charges for the LLM, but really affordable compared to other countires. I heard at Freie Universität Berlin they charge something like 1000 ⬠for the year.

Those who want to do their LLM in Germany should be aware that most likely these programs won´t be tuition-free any much longer! This week our Constitutional Court opened the doors for tuition fees to be introduced. You can be sure that international students will be the first ones to be ripped off, especially in postgradual programs! So better watch the programs you are interested in!

I heard aboout that too, but as most universities in Germany are still slow moving bureaucracies you probably still have some time left until they change the rules...

Hey, they smell good money now, so you´ll see how fast bureaucracy and legislation CAN work! ;-)

True, true, we will see a "Ruck" through germany at last....

At least the universities in southern Germany will introduce fees within the next year, trust me on that! The governments have been waiting for this for years. I think this was overdue German universities have steadily lost ground compared to eg UK or Dutch universities. Hopefully the fees will not go together with equivalent financial cuts in state subsidies...

Dear Kat
Indeed, it is true that a few Universities do not charge tuition fees. As far as I know, all these Universities are in Sweden, since this country does not charge any tuition fees at all - neither to home nor foreign students. Moreover, the University of Stockholm's LLM courses are in English. Check out the web page: www.juridicum.su.se. Uppala is the older and (probably more) prestigious university. It also offers courses in English, but is maybe not as international when it comes to the contents of its LLM programs. Check out their LLm courses, too.
Good luck and take care - Manuel

Hi again, Kat
One more detail about Sweden. Almost everyone is fluent in English there, which is a big advantage for anglo-saxon students (check out the post I submitted on your other account you opened).
I live in Switzerland, but adore Sweden and all other Scandinavian countries, the people being extremely kind and the landscape being quite impressive.
Take care - Diego

how do I get admitted

The application procedure is as everywhere. Check out the web page for Stockholm: www.juridicum.su.se. Uppsala is the older and (probably more) prestigious university.
