Hi all! I intend to seek admission to an LL.M. I want to specialise on a balance between not for profit organisation governance and regulation and corporate law and governance. I have browsed through LL.M Guide and it seems all is good but one cannot get all, the search has to be narrowed to 2-6 possibilities fast!
As I have the option to study anywhere I have the dilemma of where in particular should I look for placements.
Should it be the US (Harvard Law School, Yale Law School, UCL A/Berkeley, Stanford etc)?
Should it be Europe and UK (University of London, Oxford Cambridge, Warwick, Birmingham or Hollands Leiden, Utrecht, Maastricht, Groningen or France's University of Paris I or II or Germany's Frankfurt School of Law and Financeetc)?
Should it be Australia and Asia (Sidney, Melbourne, Queensland, La Trobe, Monash, etc)?
Should it be Africa (Capetown, Stellenbosch, University of Ghana Legon, University of Dar es Salaam, University of Zimbabwe at Mount Pleasant or the American University in Cairo etc.
The list is endless and I should make my mind fast. Could someone give me some advice on where I can seek admission that will suit my tastes in the world as fast as he/she can?
I should have got this advice four months ago.
Please help me get more focused.

Where do you live? and in which country do you imagine your future life? i guess that in every country there are good universities, before to apply you have to decide in which place you prefere stay. i'm saying this because I had your identical doubt some months ago. Let me know. Ciao Carlotta

Hi Carlotta,
I live in Africa on the eastern coastline of the continent. I do not want to name a particular country for now. Well, I had prefer some Western experiences for study purposes only and later I shall primarily work in my home country or region.
Does that answer your question. What are the main factors to be considered for the selection of LL.M? Waiting to hear from you.

If I were you I would consider the following things since you want to work in your home country:
- reputation of the particular university in your home country (the best programme unfortunately won't count for much if it is not well-known back home)
- bonds between your home country and the country you want to study in
- where have top lawyers of your country studied? These alumni links could be useful
- financial dimension, if of importance (30- 40,000 $ US-programme vs. minimal tuition fees in Europe)
- but first and foremost - if you ever dreamt of going to a particular country or university you should apply there.
