I am trying to select a university to do a masters in international tax. From my searches, the Maastricht University, seems to be a good choice. Their Problem Based Learning approach suits my study style.
I would appreciate getting any feedback and comments that will critique my choice of university. How the Maastricht University is ranked against other universities offering the same type of programs, how employers and clients view this university, etc. The Maastricht University student experience, student profile, classes etc. Tips on the admission procedures, obtaining a visa, accommodation, internships, etc.
I am looking to start September 2009.
Send your response on any aspect, thanks

Hi Casey!
Nice to meet you here. I am considering to send my apllication to Wienna. I must confess that the first factor in case of my choice is tuition fee. Lueven is the object of my desire (especially because of the high professional background of the deutch tax law firms), but it is ridiculously expensive. I am 26, have a law degree, a post graduate lawyer-economist degree, and I began a CPA study 6 months ago. I cant help you with any useful information on visa, accomodation, etc, but I think that is too early to think about them, before the admission process.
bye for now
B.

Thanks B for your response. re your tuition fee, you could search for possible available grants or scholarships.
I am still planning on applying to the Maastricht University, from my initial feedback I should be granted admission. I would like some responses as to how firms view and rank this program and this university.
Also, which other universities offer a similar program, and similar learning approach i.e. mostly case based studies.
Good luck with your application.

Hi there Casey,
I suppose you are interested in studying in Europe and not the US.
So other similar (and well known programs) in International Taxation (without a ranking to provide .. but you can visit their web sites) are: Leiden and Tilbourg Universities (both in the Nederlands, the second jointly with Leuven form the European Tax College), London (KCL, LSE or Queen Mary), Vienna (which you have been advised) and several German universities (maybe Munster to be noticed because it includes professor from other countries and so not limited geographically).
For me, Leiden and London would lead ... but all the others (Vienna, European Tax College and Munster) are very well settled ... and even Maastricht ... some professors of those universities are invited in the other programs ... you should visit their web sites and consider this (signal of globalization) and consider other elements like tuition, scholarship opportunities and the city where you would live.
Hope this help
Regards
Miguel

Thanks for the response Miguel
I looked at some of the others you mentioned and decided on the Maastricht University. I have been accepted in their LLM program and will be starting February 2009. I am now looking for an apartment in Maastricht from February (separate post requesting and help)

Guys,
I am looking for a good LLM in International Tax taught in English but in a french/german language speaking country (so not interested in the US nor in England).
I'm looking into Leuven/Tilburg European tax College or the Vienna University, but I can't find any specialized rankings on the web.
Does anybody know which Tax School would be the best?
