The Program

This post-graduate programme aims at offering students who already graduated in law in countries with different legal cultures, a deeper insight on European and international law. You could register as full or part-time student.
It holds two options. You choose to become an specialist in 'International and European Business Law' or in 'International and European Public Law'.
Each of them includes compulsory courses and optional courses. Students also attend the LL.M. Master Classes or Clinics (8 sessions) and write an LL.M. paper.

The University

You have certainly heard about KU Leuven. What you may not yet know is that it is situated in Belgium, in the heart of Western Europe, and has been a centre of learning for nearly six centuries. Today, it is Belgium's largest university and, founded in 1425, one of the oldest and most renowned universities in Europe. As a leading European research university and co-founder of the League of European Research Universities (LERU), KU Leuven offers a wide variety of international master programmes, all supported by high-quality, innovative, interdisciplinary research.

Since its founding, KU Leuven has been based in the city that shares its name. Leuven is a pleasant, safe and bustling student town, where centuries-rich history meets cutting-edge science. The university also offers degree programmes at campuses in 11 Belgian cities, including Brussels, Ghent and Antwerp. It also yearly welcomes students from 150 different countries.

KU Leuven encourages personal initiative and critical reflection in a culture of idea exchange, cooperation, solidarity and academic freedom. It pursues a proactive diversity policy for its students and staff.

The Law School

Welcome to the website of the Faculty of Law at KU Leuven. This website provides an overview of our educational and research activities, and of the people that make up our Faculty: our staff, our students, and our alumni.

Are you interested in politics, diplomacy, the business world, the economic and financial world, fourth world problems, and society as a whole? Are you passionate about the causes and consequences of crimes, criminal profiles, or restorative justice? Would you like to mediate in family or social conflicts? These topics, and many more, are covered in the two main programmes offered by our Faculty, i.e. in Law and in Criminology. Both programmes are offered at Bachelor’s and at Master’s level.

The Faculty

The Faculty of Law has more than 5000 students and a broad-based curriculum, the Faculty of Law is the oldest of the Low Countries and the largest in Belgium, having a long tradition of public service. Many of its alumni hold prominent positions in the Belgian central and regional public administration and in the European and international community in Brussels and elsewhere. Along with the rest of the university, the Faculty of Law emphasizes an international and comparative approach to education in law and criminology. The Faculty has agreements (to host and send students) with other universities in Europe, the United States, Australia, South Africa and Japan.

Entry Requirements

The basic requirement for admission to the LL.M. programme is the possession of a law degree which entitles the holder to practise law in his/her country of origin.

The decision on the admission is based upon evaluation of a complete application file and on the following elements: results obtained during the applicant's university studies, the level of knowledge of the English language (Toefl score of 100, IELTS score of 7,5 or Cambridge-Proficiency level certificate), a statement of purpose (with the student's expectation of the programme) and three recommendation letters.
