the 20 of August is the arrival day for those who registered for the oreintation programme. (I didn't) But Hanna wrote at the homepage, that on the 30 of August there will be a mini tour around Lund, to meet eachother. I will arrive early afternoon, so I hope, I can go with them

Hi Satine,
I am a current student on the LLM. This website is really good for finding accomodation in Lund:

http://www.lus.lu.se/bopoolen/
It isn't hard to find and it is usually a lot cheaper that the IHO.
Good luck!

Hello everyone!
It's been a while since we last posted on the wall.
I am wondering how everyone is doing and how you all are getting ready to go to Lund...I am a little disappointed because my student loan wasn't approved by the Canadian Government and I need a cosigner if I want to ask for a private loan. My mom says she is gonna help me but it is a big sacrifice for her so I am feeling pretty bad about it. I am gonna try to find a job as soon as I get there. I hope that helps...I am so broke...living in DC is so expensive I can't afford it either...the only good thing is that I am learning a lot about International Human Rights...especially the Inter-American system.
I still haven't sent a copy of my diploma. I thought I read it somewhere that it had to come straight from the university in a sealed envelope. It is gonna be hard to do that because I am not going back to Canada before I go to Sweden. Satine, are you sure we can get a certified copy by a notary to show it in Lund? I think that might be easier for me...I wonder if the notary will ask me to translate the diploma since it is in French.
Another thing, I got a room from the IHO but they are expensive...i am hoping to find a share accommodation or something cheaper when I am settled in Lund because I will be really broke.
Has anyone received the visa yet. I am still waiting...
Oh well, let's hope for the best and if everything goes as planned I will be in Lund in 5 weeks....It is really exciting!!!
I can wait to meet you all
I hope u r all enjoying the summer and having a great time
cheers

Hi Armando,
It's nice to have some news from you. As to ur diploma, you can ask to your home uni to send you a copy of it in a sealed enveloppe and then you send it to Lund. That's what I did! If you have the original of your diploma, you can ask a public notary to provide you a certified copy. But there is a difference: the notary will ask you to pay him a fee, whereas the uni provides it for free. Last, I'm not sure but I think that Lund Uni accepts documents in french. Just send them an e-mail or call them, that might be faster. See u in Lund:)

Hello everyone!!!
Armando, I think the system is different in every country. I have a copy of my diploma certificate (in Hungarian) certified by a notar, and a certified translation into English language (sealed as well). I was lucky, because I have a frien at the Uni, so he sealed all my envelops.... But I'm sure, your Uni will do the same, but don't hesitate, time is running...... and to amnage anything in Sweden is horrible! I wrote about a 100 letters in tha last months and I couldn't solve my problems. But today, I got a room in Delphi!!!!
I think IHO is not very expensive, as I've tried to get a room in private accomodations. The cheapest was 3000 SEK. My room will be 2800 with own bathroom.
I didn't get the scholarship, and I'm very disappointed as weell, and broken.... I must find a job very very quickly, or I will starving, no joke. Sweden is horrible expensive, and my salary here is not bad, but nothing by them. So it won't be easy.... But I think all the sacrificies will worth....

I've registered at the www.afb.se site and booked for three different rooms. (cheap, single rooms with own shower). next day i got an email, that I can sign the contract....
I had information about the campuses (pisctures, discriptions, ground plans pf the rooms etc.) so I think living in Delphi will be a big fun! (I hope)
Do you have any accomodation ?

This is what they said in that e-mail they sent me

"Total cost for a semester is approx. SEK12500 - 19000 depending on area
and type of room. Remaining payments are made in two installments due on
September 17 and November 5, 2007
(Official Academic semester is September 1st until January 18 but could
vary, please check with your department.) "

So it would be double of that for the 2 semesters...or triple if i want to stay for the summer. Well, I'll have to see maybe I'll move after the first semester if I find something cheaper. I also need to find a job as soon as I get there or we will both be starving to death Satine. I guess we can starve together ;)

Regarding the diploma, my university charges $20 for each certificate, + $20 if I want it in English, and another $25 if i want it sent to me here in the US. I am not in Canada anymore so I think it'd be easier for me to find a notary to do it for me and then bring it myself when I arrive in Lund.

Thanks for all the help

Any news about the visas?

Hello Vika!!!! Nice to meet You here!
I'll arrive on the 28th of August, I've bought a new ticket, because I have to manage too much things there. The accomodation at the Afb is very compliacted. there is no furniture in my room, and the don't want to help me transporting the items. I have no car, I can't drive a car, but they told me to rent a car. Nice.
I bought two books for the first course, I get them next week (I had to order them from GBritain).
Don't give up, ther are many rooms at Afb, maybe you get one at the end!!!!

I'm also glad to meet You here:)I don't doubt that I'll have many problems right upon arrival to the Airport.I plan to take a taxi from Copenhagen to Lund! I've read that it costs about 40 euro.I don't give up,but I'm sure if I get a room,it will not be managed with afb:)! I don't know any word in Swedish,so English is my only one hope to communicate!By the way,do you know the current exchange rate of SEK-EURO???

Hi!
Will you have so many luggage? Because there is a train From Copenhagen to Lund I guess. Maybe it's cheaper. I don't know the exchange rate , I am thinking in HUF-SEK rate....... :-))
I have Swedish lessons for 2 months. It's not very difficult, similar to English and German.Only the pronunciation is hard, but I've heard they all speak English very well. So You won't have language problems.

Armando, I realized a big problem of us. I've checked the lessons we will have in September-October. The schedule is idiot. All the lessons will be held in the middle of the day (12-14 pm) How can we get a job with this timetable? It's not normal. I thought, we will have evening lessons, ore lessons early morning. I don't undestand why they make our life more difficult. To live two years long in Sweden is very expensive, without a scholarship we must have a job. uhh. Sometimes I'm very dissappointed, but can't wait to be there and meet all of you!!!!
