Hi, I made the housing payment too. just it was 25 euro for fees. maybe cause I'm closer:)) and well, i do not have a confirmation sheet since i made the payment from my computer by internet banking. Is that a problem?
I also took the Lippmann insurance, I thought it may be good.
I was wondering- in my flight I can only take 20 kg for checked baggage plus 8 for carry-on...hmmm.... i think i'll have to do a very careful selection:)))
btw just to remind- have ya'll made appointments for key? I'm meeting the guy Eric at 11 in the Horizon House on the 27th.

Hum, if you can print out a confirmation that would be best. They say they will accept a confirmation in the case where the payment is not yet in their computer. But you sent it well in advance, so you should be ok!
What airline are you flying on? I only get 20kg too! boo

yeah, I think I can print the confirmation just it wouldn't have a stamp on it:) I believe I'll print and bring it with me just in case.
I'm on "fly LAL" (Lithuanian airlines). You know it's just a 2 hr flight from here:) wow, I thought that on longer flights they allow more...

For me it's 7 hours to Zurich, then 1h40 to AMS from there. I get 2 peices of baggage that must total no more than 20kg. So, should be interesting!

I'm finding the fact that I need to get my bags from the airport to Leiden then to the housnig office then to Hugo de G a nice little incentive to keep the weight down :'( But of course it'll be impossible.
Also the fact that my airline - Aer Lingus - are in the middle of some strike action is a worrying thing... Should have booked to fly from Belfast... grr...

Oh, good news! You can sign your housing contract at the Visitor Centre, which is in the train station. So no need to make the trip to the office.
Hopefully they know your coming and won't strike!

Really? How did you hear about that? That certainly makes things easier!
Update - one of my housing emails says this: 'Upon your arrival in Leiden you go to the Visitors Centre (at the train station), where you will receive information. After this, you go to the Accommodate office at Rapenburg 33 to sign the housing contract. After signing, you can go to your accommodation to get the key from the caretaker.'

I was surprised to hear it too. Note, this info is only valid for Accommodate, and not for the other housing agency (I don't remember the name...)
For the period mid August, September you can sign your contract at the Visitors centre.

that's gooood! i just wonder why they could't metion that in the letter that I've received from the caretaker? anyway I was plannig to go to the visitors center after I arrive just to get some info, it would be awesome if I could sign the contract there!!! on the other hand if there is no such possibility it wouldn't be a big problem to go to the housing agency just I think we can leave our stuff in the station for a while...

Hi everyone just landed in Leiden yesterday... I spoke to the caretaker and asked him to drop off the keys at the visitors centre since I was due to arrive on a Friday evening.
I was lucky enough to make it on time so I moved into Horizon House....he said I can come into sign the lease on Monday morning. I know Paul is already here... anyone else?

Hey Harshan! so, tell us how does the Horizon House look like? How abt Leiden itself? btw, would you say it's far to go to the Horizon House from the Leiden Centraal station? what are your impressions?
Posted Aug 19, 2007 20:47
Horizon house is quite nice... its still a bit quiet though. I don;t think many of the students have arrived yet...
its probably a 20 min walk from Leiden Centraal station. I took a taxi the first time because I had bags and couldn't be bothered finding it...it was about 11 euro.
Leiden is very beautiful...first impression is that its very quiet!

Chikidicheck.
After some quality festival time in Belgium I am recovering at my friends place in Gent. Tomorrow earliest I am taking my train to Antwerp/Rotterdam/Leiden, so I should arrive around afternoon.
I am so tired of carrying all my stuff around, like 35 kilos - Air Baltic doesn't care too much about weight limits on their airplanes.
See you guys soon, off to grab some local belgian food.

oooh that would be so cool if we can sign the housing contract at the visitor's centre, I saw it on some papers a swell, but one website says we have to go to accomodate... if someone experienced it, let me know! just to have an idea of how long it takes to do all of that before picking up the key...

My bank are giving me me grief over paying fees - does anyone know:
(a) the name of the bank in Leiden (I'm guessing ABN-AMRO?)
(b) the branch address?
Thanks!

Thanks for that, but it seems to be a different bank that handle the tuition fees - the IO sent me an email and for anyone else who needs them, the details are:
The name of the bank is: ABN-AMRO bank.
Address: De Entrée 99, Postbus 90, 1000 AB AMSTERDAM
