To candy82:

Well, I didnt request not to talk about politics, I just mentioned:)
Yes, I had a chance to say my motivation in English, at least.

And, yes, they asked about my possible topic of master thesis.

Sonow I can only wait for results and wish everyone who still didnt have the interview the best of luck!!!!!!!!

I didn't mean you should've asked them not to ask you any political questions. I thought that in your motivation essay you mentioned your area of interest wasn't politics, therefore, by the interview they should've known you're not interested in it. Of course I know you're not allowed to choose the topic of question during the interview.

I hope your French made up for that though. :)

:) I just take it easy. Just the French language with all my love to this beautiful languageI dont think it worked on me during the interview.:)

On the other hand, nothing to complain, this is our choice to study at the institution with two working languages.

I just had my interview.
In both languages.
Questions: personal motivation, the criteria of the mambership in the EU, Internal Market regulations, what was the first case concerning the internal market and what was the court decision. And whether I have some questions.

Good luck for those who has the interview today!

I just had my interview. I don't think it went very well. They asked me a lot of questions about various economic subjects - microeconomics, and stuff like that. No French at all, considering they gleaned that from my application. I studied French very well, I'm sad I didn't get to show it. Oh well.

Do you guys think it's a bad sign not knowing some of their questions?

candy.
don't worry, after all the interviews you feel you could do better.
what kind of microeconomic questions were? what is your level of french?

Structures of microeconomics. And my level is like C perhaps. I understand and read very well. But unfortunately I didn't get to a chance to show that.

Mostly about the economic subjects I studied in university. Like mathematical economics, accounting...finance, stuff like that.

About 5, I think. I answered most of them of them, I only wasn't familiar with 1 or 2.

I just hate that I wasted my time reading about treaties and neglected everything economics. How stupid of me.

Hi Malvina,

I had had 3 questions in French, but I confused some stuff, so it didn't go very well.

I wasn't asked anything on institutions or treaties (which I was actually preparing).

Good luck for you!

Yeah, but they were simple questions. Oh well!

Good luck to you, dear! :)

Edit: It's also weird that they assumed that my French is bad just cos in my application I didn't mention obtaining any courses or anything. They didn't give me any chance to prove them otherwise.

Candy,
i just got my interview. also economic questions, i didn't answer 2 of them because I graduated 2 years ago and I don't remember. The connection was bad and I didn't understand well what they were asking. I haven't time to ask when the results will be announced. Does anybody know?

Good luck everyone

Mal!

Oh dear! The connection was terrible for me as well. I asked the professor, to repeat several questions, cos the line kept breaking up.

Did they ask you about microeconomics and mathematical economics as well?

At least you graduated 2 years ago, I graduated like 7 years ago. So it was really hard for me to remember. I think we should've concentrated on the econ side and less on the EU and its treaties. I reckon you did the same?

Did they ask you anything in French?

Judging by most of the replies here, I guess it takes them like 2 weeks to a month to reply.

Good luck everyone!

I'm really bummed about not being able to speak in French. It really sucks that they pre-assumed that my French was bad, based on my 2 months old application. Ever since I have improved a lot and sadly, during the interview I didn't get a chance to show that. Do you think it would be possible to contact either the admissions office or one of the professors who interviewed me with that? Or will this be a violation or something? Please someone clear this up for me!

I don't think that the level of your language knowledge is determining the outcome of your application. "Technical" knowledge about your subject area and a healthy motivation to do these studies are in my opinion the key determinants. How do you know that they assumed a bad French level, not asking you a question in French does not necessarily mean that...

Oh, one of the professors interviewing me today told me this and I quote: I understand that your French is very bad. But I said It's not, I even said a sentence in French but then they quickly moved on to the next question in English. However, I did mention more than once that I'm 100% committed to strengthening it before the start of the course.

What about not being able to answer a question or 2 during the interview? Do you think it would lower my chances ?
I was just taken by surprise with the question. It was a basic economic question and I haven't read anything related to that in a really long time, so I said I wasn't familiar with it. I hope this is didn't give them the idea that I'm a loser who doesn't know ABC's of the course.

How would you define 'technical' btw?

I don't think this the decisive criterion.
