I don't think that the level of your language knowledge is determining the outcome of your application. "Technical" knowledge about your subject area and a healthy motivation to do these studies are in my opinion the key determinants. How do you know that they assumed a bad French level, not asking you a question in French does not necessarily mean that...
I'm really bummed about not being able to speak in French. It really sucks that they pre-assumed that my French was bad, based on my 2 months old application. Ever since I have improved a lot and sadly, during the interview I didn't get a chance to show that. Do you think it would be possible to contact either the admissions office or one of the professors who interviewed me with that? Or will be a violation or something? Please someone clear this up for me!
Oh, one of the professors interviewing me today told me this and I quote: I understand that your French is very bad. But I said It's not, I even said a sentence in French but then they quickly moved on to the next question in English. However, I did mention more than once that I'm 100% committed to strengthening it before the start of the course.
What about not being able to answer a question or 2 during the interview? Do you think it would lower my chances ?
I was just taken by surprise with the question. It was a basic economic question and I haven't read anything related to that in a really long time, so I said I wasn't familiar with it. I hope this is didn't give them the idea that I'm a loser who doesn't know ABC's of the course.
How would you define 'technical' btw?
