CoE 2012/2013

Hi guys,

I applied through the UK Committee for the POL course and was so surprised to find out on Friday 09/03 that I have an interview on the 21st in London.

Needless to say, I am now a nervous wreck (which is probably why i'm online reading about CoE at 1.30am :) )

I am hoping it won't be too stressing but I'm really concerned about my French. Really not up to scratch and I'm not at all confident about discussing any issues in-depth :/ I am receiving regular tuition and I am confident that if I did get in, it would be sufficient, but as I say this has been a surprise! Oh well I suppose all I can do is try and hope!

How is everyone else feeling? Any one had an interview yet? Any tips?

Hope to see you all in Bruges :)

Hello to all of you!
Is there anybody from Poland?
I apply for IRDS and, as a second choice, European Law. I have just been invited to the interview that will take place at the end of March. I will be grateful for any tips from those of you, who have already had this experience.
Regards

Hello emka :)
I am from Poland and I have applied for IRDS too. My interview is on 27th March and I am so stressed...:P

Hi Magda
I am stressed too :) Good luck and please, afterwards tell us what the interview was like.
One more question - did you also receive the mail regarding ENP-EU scholarship? I understand that this is an additional source of financing of CoE studies for candidates interested in ENP. The Government scholarship is still available for the rest of the candidates, correct?

Received right now the email from Rome for being pre-selected.

I really hope it won't take long to know when the interviews will take place...

And this is a major concern for me since I currently live abroad, reallllllllly far from Italy, and we cannot have phone interview!!! If you have any idea about it, let me know! and fingers crossed for both of us, I think we'll def meet each other in Rome soon :)

I guess (real guessin') they will be around beginning of April. All in all they're going to take 2-3 weeks to start IMHO.

I do have big problems too, at the end of April in particular I got the last exam.
Let's wait and see.

Good luck to everybody who is going to have an interview soon! Does anyone know how long does it take -after the interview- for the College to answer whether you are admitted or not? I had the interview last Thursday and I'm really looking forward to their answer, also to be able to make it and apply on time to other LLMs in case I won't be admitted by the College :(
Thanks and good luck to all of you!

Hello everybody!!!
I just received communication from Rome too that we will have the interview some day in the end of march ( I believe so, last year it was like this)...
I applied last year too and went to the interview and all that, but did not receive any (positive or negative) communication after that!
Anyway, I think the problem was I still did not have my University degree, and that, overall, did not help with the score! The interview was ok, in French and English, sometimes they ask technical questions, but not too much in detail...
Well, that's all folks, see you soon hopefully!

Hi everybody! I received the communcation some days ago, and I am starting to realise just now that I've been pre-selected (read: panic!). What do you guys do to prepare for the interview? I wrote my bachelor dissertation on the Serbia/Kosovo issue and I am revising some stuff on enlargement and accession process, but I have no idea if I need to focus on the legal/historic/most recent aspects.. -->that's because I am convinced that the interview will be focused on our previous studying/working experiences (follows panic scream).
Btw: good luck to everybody, and I hope to meet all the Italians in Rome when they will tell us the date !

Hello! well I am basically reviewing EU policies and mechanisms and getting updated with the current events. But I truly believe it's all about destiny.. but yeah maybe they'll ask something that is related to your BA thesis if it has relevance for the EU, I guess.. My BA thesis is about the Batasuna case and a sentence of the ECHR, so they may ask that too, I am not sure tho. Good luck to you too!

ughh I'm dyyying here reading about everyone's inverviews and not knowing if I have one myself...

@CamiC: like you said I too think an important part of the interview is based on your general academic/work background but I get the feeling CURRENT EVENTS are key.

again, best of luck to those preparing an interview :)

I am now The Economist and EUObserver's best friend! :D

btw, don't worry ilse: I am pretty sure that your national committee is a bit late. Where are you from? The Italian responsible of the admission procedure told me that Italy, Spain and France are the countries with most applicants, and taht it requires a long evauation of CVs and applications!

@ CamiC: yup Spain's my committee and to make matters worse the application deadline was yesterday so I bet people have been applying until the last moment...

the fact that Spain's one of the countries with the most applicants doesn't exactly put my mind at ease either...anyway you know what they say: hope for the best, prepare for the worst :)

best of luck to you!

Hey guys!

I'm an Italian candidate who received just few days ago the confirmation that I've been pre-selected. I am anxiously waiting for the communication regarding when and where my interview will be. Is there any other LLM candidate? What will you study for the interview? and are you also applying for the ENP scholarship?
I am writing my motivational letter right now, but I am a bit skeptical 'cause I've a Law degree and legal background: (unluckily) I have never dealt with EU external relations, so I am wondering if I am not wasting my Saturday morning!

Cheers!

Hi Randomlawyer ;)
I also have legal background but still I'm applying for international relations programme. If that is your dream, then go for it and don't worry about your previous studies. Besides, law and international relations have a lot in common, so personally I think a legal background is a good thing for someone, who wants to work in EU external relations.
As for the ENP scholarship, I am not sure if to apply. I am interested in that policy but I am not sure if I want this to be my main subject while studying at CoE. The governments offer more scholarships for the ones, who are not specially interested in ENP, so I guess we won't be left without financial help, will we?
And finally regarding the preparations for the interview - no idea what we will face in there hehe I guess the most probable thing is your background, your future plans and your motivation. They can also ask for current situation in the world and within EU, and also about the history, policy and treaties of EU. Who knows?
Good luck and hope we'll see each other in CoE.
