Hey - I'm in the same situation as you.
I applied late and therefore am not eligible to apply for student housing. I still don't know if I'll get accepted but I'm hopeful as the university administration has been positive.
I have bought a subscription to kamernet.nl - a dutch housing website. It allows you to go through rooms on offer and react to them. However from a few thousand miles away (Australia), organising accomodation is proving to be difficult. A lot of the rooms seem to become avaliable 1 August - but I won't be in Amsterdam then.
From my experience living in Utrecht, Dutch students put a lot of emphasis on meeting you before allowing you to move in (as you would). They have this even called a hosita(not sure on the spelling) where they invite about 10 or so people who have applied for the room around, have drinks, ask you questions and you have to impress them to get the room. Intimidating and very Dutch
I'm coming mid-August - I'm happy to look for a flat with another LLM student (if I get accepted)! Otherwise I'll study in Utrecht where I have been accepted
Any current/past Amsterdam students?

I hope you get accepted to Amsterdam Uni. Good luck :)
I will start looking for all info now because I do not know anything. I am still surprised that I have changed my mind to go there. When I got accepted at the beginning of June, I had no reaction, as I was sure I wont go. But I kept it in case I change my mind :)
I am thinking to come at the end of August. I just hope to find home easier than 'trying to impress' people to give me the room... :

I am in the same boat for housing. One site that I have been looking at is Craigslist.org there have been a number of different options for places to live.
I am currently planning on arriving mid to late August. I am looking forward to meeting all of you.

Does anyone know a good website to use for looking for an apartment. I have been using craigslist.org and the prices for apartments are pretty expensive.
Also does anyone know what neighborhoods are by the law school?
Thanks!

kamernet.nl - probably the most used website to find a room. You have to pay a subscription fee to be able to apply for the rooms/studios. I think there is some English explanation on the website
www.pararius.com - a site for expats looking for apartments - often very expensive
http://kopen.marktplaats.nl/huizen-en-kamers/huizen-te-huur/c2143.html - Dutch craigslist
Huizen (houses) en kamers (rooms) te huur = houses and rooms for rent
I think the average rent in Amterdam for a room (not for an apartment) is 500 euro per month - so rent is expensive.
For a self contained apartment or studio, expect to pay 600+
As for neighbourhoods - as it's so hard to find a place to live, I wouldn't be picky. Plus, Amsterdam is quite small so anywhere near the centre is great. Dutch cities are not like American cities. They are small and compact and normally if you live anywhere in the centre, nothing would be more than 15 minutes away by bike

Guys, are you attending orientation days for Master's students?
Talking about accommodation, I hope to find something fast when I come, but I also thought that once we meet in orientation days (if you come) and we do not have accommodation, maybe we could try to find together some flat?

Hello, Nijntje and the others...
I am plaining to do a LLM in UvA next year with my wife, and I want to know your experience there.
I read in another post that Dutch people can be little hostile with the foreign...
Another problem is that I need to rent a little apartment, and not a room, because I am married.
Any tips? Can you share your experience??

I am settling in after 2 weeks of being here and I have found nothing hostile about my environment. I would say that the Dutch are a bit more blunt then what I am used to in America but not in a rude sort of way.
The best piece of advice I can give you is have your housing sorted out before you come here. I thought I could do it when I arrived and I put myself in a bad situation having to spend a lot on hotels and crashing on couches until I could find a place.

Hi
How old are the LLM-students (law) in Amsterdam? Thinking about taking a year off work

Most of the students seems to be around mid 20s, while there are a few of us who are over 30.

If you are an American Attorney considering pursuing an LLM at UvA. I strongly recommend reconsidering unless you have a strong knowledge base of EU law.

Hey
I saw you are pursuing the LLM in trade and investment, currently thinking myself about applying. Could you tell me something about the programme, the quality of courses, professors etc?
Thanks!
