Just wondered if anyone who has applied for 2011 admission for this programme had heard anything? I got my application materials in about a month ago but am still waiting, I thought admission was done on a "rolling" basis but that doesn't seem entirely accurate...

Admissions are not done on a rolling basis - you should hear from NYU in January/February :)

Oh - that's quite late... I guess I'd better apply to a few more courses then!

I did apply and yesterday I received offers for both NYU and NYU@NUS with a Dean's award for study in Singapore.
I am confused which of the two I should choose?
Please provide some guidance on the same.

LLM Aspirant, may I ask you if you applied for Singapura or Hauser scholarships?

Has anyone heard from NYU@NUS after the first round of offers? Any hope for the rest?

Still waiting as well. No idea on the chances of getting in after the first round. Good luck to us!

hi guys,
I am trying to decide whether to take up NYU@NUS wid a deans award of 20k or wait it out for the others -harvard, oxford. so can someone tell me how NYU@NUS rates as opposite to NYU@NYC as regards job prospects...as in for NYU@NYC i just got a vanilla acceptance so it'll obviously mean i higher loan...any idea as to job prospects which would help repay such loans..
i'd really appreciate a quick reply because NYU@NUS has given me Jan 28th deadline by when to accept their offer.

hey,
for the NYU@NUS program how any idea how much extra we would have to pay for the NY bar....
For the NY bar, you can do it pretty cheaply. Some of my classmates (note that I did not do NYU@NUS) just bought the books and the lecture CD from eBay or Craigslist for $400, studied at home and the library, then took the exam (registration was $250) and then passed. So that's a total of $650 excluding board and lodging.
I did the full package. I signed up with Kaplan ($1500) so with board and lodging, probably spent something close to $4000.
You can actually just study from your home country (either by the self-study method of getting used books, or sign up with Kaplan/Barbri for the full course), then fly off to NY to take the bar. That's possible too.
Note also that registration for the exam will now cost foreign educated candidates $750.

hey thanks a lot for the reply! it really helped!

It is actually not true that you can prepare at home for the NY bar, at least if you are a foreign student and did not do your legal education in the US.
For NYU@NUS students, it is required to sit a 100-hours class in NYC to be eligible to sit the NY bar. So you need to be present there for 2 1/2 months.
You do not need to pay extra tuition, but you need to pay housing expenses. This year, we were offered NYU housing which costs 328 USD / weekly.
So overall it is not cheap, but manageable.

Hey people,
I also need to reply to them by Jan 28th if I accept the NYU@NUS offer. My offer letter states that if I do not accept this offer, I would be sent an official offer letter for NYU LL.M. in March. I hope it means that I have a confirmed offer from NYU. What are your views?
Further I have offers from UCL, London and King's College London for LL.M.
I am terribly confused as to join NYU@NUS, NYU or UCL/Kings.
Please guide me which law school would give me a better brand and job opportunities abroad and in India as I am an Indian national with work experience of 3 years in Indian law firms. Please enlighten me.

Hey,
Can someone please tell me about the job prospects at NYU@NUS as opposed to an Oxford BCL or Cambridge LLM?

I have been made an offer for NYU@NUS. But my applications at 5 other schools are pending and I would ideally want to wait until I hear from them before I accept the NYU@NUS offer. The problem is that the NYU@NUS requires you to give a declaration that you have withdrawn yourself from all other applications and that you will take-up the NYU@NUS offer. Can I apply to NYU@NUS and wait and watch for results from other law schools and if accepted from other law schools, withdraw myself from NYU? Is there any way NYU can find out where I have applied to (the application form was silent) and write to other colleges of my acceptance? VERY VERY URGENT. Please HELP.

@Azeling
I was asked the questions about job opportunities several times via mail, so I think it might be a good idea to write it here as well:
NYU as well as NUS are doing a lot for job placement. The career development office of NYU is constantly sending messages with internship and job opportunities in Asia as well as the US. NYU conducted the "Asia job fair" in Singapore. There have been around 20 law firms present this year and you could apply for job interviews. In addition to that, you can also take part in the New York job fair. Since you are in Singapore at that time, you will need an additional flight to take part so this would only make sense if you want to consider working in the US.
Apart from that, NYU is organizing "coffee talks" about various topics regularly. After the coffee talks, we always have a lunch with the speakers (professors but also partners from law firms), which is quite a good networking opportunity.
I don't know how this compares to other universities. But I can say that: For me as a European, a LL.M. from NYU as well as NUS opens the doors to almost any law firm in Germany. And I think I could have even found something here in Asia. A lot of classmates have already successfully found a job, some didn't start their search yet. So overall I think, that this program is an excellent opportunity because of its high reputation and the double LL.M. from two of the world's best universities.
@shabi
If you take up the offer and withdraw your attendance later, the deposit will definitely be lost. I can't tell you if there are any other consequences apart from that. I think you should ask the NYU Singapore office. They are really very nice and since they selected you, they might be willing to find a solution together with you.
On the other hand, you need to understand that there are probably also other candidates waiting. As soon as people declined offers, the second round of offers will be send out. So they need a decision. Maybe you should think one more time carefully about what you want and why you did apply for this program. I also had to decline a lot of offers from other law schools for attending this one (including LSE, what was one of my favourites), but I didn't regret it. If you applied at great universities and for excellent programs, either choice you make will be a win win situation.
