The application for uni accom is still open, till tmr i think.. there's no need to wait for the formal email. All you need to enter the system is the application number and password. Just go to the housing page for grad students. But, the email does confirm that there is still construction going on at UTown, which is not ideal on top of the distance. I've applied anyway, as a safety net - but even then they say that provision of accom isn't guaranteed..

hi Krishnan, generally to do a llm, you would need a llb r equiv - it's mainly cos you're further expanding or specialising in your legal background. the diploma is for people in the industry without a law background. In terms of value, it really depends on what you're after, do you want letters behind your name or do you want the knowledge? and it depends on where you want to work after. I would guess the best option is to work at a ship owner/manager company or a P&I club? in which case the maritime institute in southampton runs a 2-3 week course in singapore which covers most of the things from the llm, but with more industry related people than lawyers. it is apparently fantastic for meeting potential employers and to network. it's about the same price as the diploma i reckon. or do the law conversion course for a year, GDL in the UK, and then do the llm.

@dhar: Thanx for the info but I got the formal offer letter last week itself and have applied for acco @ uni campus. it doesn't seem too promising though going by the mail nus sent us. M planning to do the medicals @ uhc only.

And what about accommodation? Has everybody found a place to live @ Singapore? Coz going by the email from NUS I doubt if any of us - barring the married ones with spouse & kid(s) - would be getting rooms @ uni campus...

It˙s getting closer to semester-start. I was surprised on how strict the medicals are, but I guess they have to take their precautions.. Will do the medicals at home before I move to Singapore. I don˙t want to spend my first days in a new country inside a hospital or whatever..
About accommodation, I have also applied for the Utown, but as you have implied, there aren˙t many rooms, it˙s still a construction site and the campus rules is a bit strict.. So I guess I˙ll try to find something on the open market. I found a webpage where it˙s possible to find roommates, other students trying to find a room, or trying to find someone to share their apartment with - easyroommate.com.
Anyone with any experience from this page? My impression is that it is a good way to find a cheap apartment to share (700 - 1000 SGD p.m.) and at the same time a good way to get to know people, other students, when you˙re traveling alone to a new country :)

for proximity, i don't think you can beat evans lodge, it's about a 5min walk- but the reviews are awful and i don't mind a bit of a commute if the living conditions are better. SIC is only 10 mins by bus, which is pretty closeby as well. Anything on Bukit Timah road shouldn't take longer than about 20-30mins.
The pics of UTown look decent; btw has anyone heard from the accom results? they said 1st June so should be one of these days. Since lots of us have applied, what is everyone going to do if you get UTown? 'cos we have to pay the deposit within a week or so to confirm right?

Watch out for a girl called 'Sih' with an apartment near Orchard willing to let at aprx $650. There're websites on rental scams with names/typical emails they send out etc, check it out. Do you know where we read the lessons, whether in Bukit Timah Campus (where the law school is located) or Kent Ride Campus? because Evans Lodge is much closer to the latter one whilst SIC is to the former one.

Yes I know about Shi..tried to scam me haha.. I˙m not sure wether to accept Utown if I get it, probably not though. I don˙t really want to live with the restrictions on campus. Have anyone heard about any good long term youth hostels, such as YOHA? Is it any good? I prefer living in a place with a lot of students, but still private. YOHA is one at affordable price, but haven˙t seen any pictures of the rooms. Any advice?

YOHA is one at affordable price, but haven˙t seen any pictures of the rooms. Any advice?

Do you know where we read the lessons, whether in Bukit Timah Campus (where the law school is located) or Kent Ride Campus? because Evans Lodge is much closer to the latter one whilst SIC is to the former one.
Hi Nacho, we'll have classes in the Bukit Timah campus where the law school is. Evans Lodge is also just a walk in BT campus. The private condos there can be quite pricey because of its proximity to Orchard Road

Anybody checked the accommodation status, I have been offered Single room (non-ac) at Graduate residence. No option other than to accept.

@ Nacho "Is the English course starting on the 1st of July? I haven´t been required to take it but I would like it, and according to the email that NUS sent me it´s commencing on 11, July. "

Anybody checked the accommodation status, I have been offered Single room (non-ac) at Graduate residence. No option other than to accept.
I˙ve been offered Single room as well at Graduate residence. Even though I was a bit sceptic about the campus restrictions and all, there is really no other option then to accept. As you know, the buildings at Utown are new with nice apartments, good facilities and it seems to have a good location as well..
So I think I˙ll accept the offer. It˙s good to have accommodation figured out as well, specially when I˙m not moving to Singapore before the end of july. The check-in dates are from 23. July right?
And as I understand there˙s a bus going to the law faculty as well?
