Hey all !
I am from India and shall be joining NUS for Corporate & Financial Services law. I am really confused about accommodation. I am planning to apply for SIC or Utown. Can any1 tell which 1 would be better or is there any other place to apply for.

@ abhi_D: hi there, even I am in the same CFS specialization as you...have you received the second set of attachments from NUS yet? Do let me know in case you have or should receive it coz m eagerly waiting for the second mail from NUS...none of the other students enrolled in CFS whom I know have received it either...
Posted May 17, 2011 17:08
@ abhi_D: to my knowledge utown wud definitely be a better option than sic...though it wud always be more convenient to opt for rented acco wid roommates..
Posted May 17, 2011 17:13
@ amrapalli: what about the apartments @ KR, RP etc. Sorry, I'm a lil lost on d accomodation options
Posted May 17, 2011 17:25
@ayeshia: kr is the better option as far as i know...but then i dont know much abt rp..hv heard gud reviews abt kr though...u hv to apply there in advance if u want a place because acco in kr is always in demand...btw hv u received the second mail from NUS? do lemme knw coz m eagerly waiting for the same!
Posted May 17, 2011 17:32
@amprapalli: thanks for ur response. I have personally seen KR and its a lovely place to stay at. That explains the high demand. About the 2nd email, I received their formal offer yesterday afternoon. I think u xan expect urs soon too coz the accomodation application period is beteween 11th and 24th only. So I'm sure they'd expedite sending out the confirmed offers @ d earliest. Have you figured out ur accomodation; I mean what r u planning to apply for?
Posted May 17, 2011 17:42
@ayeshia: ya dats what i was told dat kr is a really nice place...seems dat nus has sent out the 2nd mail to almost everybody except the cfs ppl :( maybe they dont want us to apply for acco! if i dont receive my mail by tomorrow m going to send them a mailer..abt acco i wud prefer living off campus but again it all depends on the amt of rent and if i can get roommates for the same...wat abt u? hv u applied to kr yet?
Posted May 17, 2011 17:48
@Amprapali: actually, I was also planning to live off campus. I wanted a place where cooking was permitted. But din find a roommate. U know what, can we exchange email ids. I researched majorly for rental accomodation. We can discuss things in detail.
Posted May 17, 2011 18:40
@Amprapali: Thanks for reply. I had mailed them regarding the confirmation mail. they replied that they are sending it batch wise and CFS batch get it in next couple of days.
Posted May 18, 2011 03:15
i send email yesterday to ask when can i get the second letterfrom them, and they just reply "We are preparing the letters by batches and emailing them to the students. You should receive the letter within a week's time.
Thank you for your patience. ----wuuu,i dont think i have any advantage of choose a room .

@Amrapalli: Just to clarify, are the non-subsidized rates reflected as per the link below applicable to Grad students??
http://www.nus.edu.sg/osa/housing/graduate/rates.html
Also are these the only accomodations options we have?

@abhD: thanx for letting me know!
Posted May 18, 2011 08:01
@Jiang Ying: Thanx for the info :) I know this means we wont be able to apply for the accomodation on campus...not that I was keen on it but still it means we have one option less...by the way you are in which LLM programme?
Posted May 18, 2011 08:06
@ayesha: The subsidized fees are meant only for those students who are eligible as per the Ministry of Education of Singapore's guidelines for the same. Do take a look at this link:

Drop me a mail at ats900@gmail.com and we can discuss things further..

Received the second mail today. Also, applied for NUS accommodation, but they state Kent Ridge may not be convenient to access law school campus. Still confused about accommodation. Any idea if it could be possible to leave hostel accommoation in between.

@ abhi_D
No, if you sign up for one semester for accommodation, it's compulsory to pay for the entire semester.
