Any info on whether there is to be a fee hike? The acceptance letter says that AY2011/12 fees will be published in April.

Hey Dhar,
Congratulations on your admission. I have also been offered a spot in Maritime Law. As for the acceptance letter, it does seem to convey a fee hike. I doubt they'l peg it to same as last year.

Congrats to you as well. Do you work in the Maritime industry?
Yeah, not with the amount of interest that the "newer" LLMs have created. Hopefully, they don't hike it so much that it would come in to par with the other LLMs. We'll know mid-April anyhow.
Where are you planning on staying in Singapore?

Hi, I am a law graduate from India and am really keen on doing my LLM in corporate law.
I got the offer letter from NUS yesterday for admission into its Corporate & Financial Services Law for the 2011-2012 sem. Now I am in a dilemma. Should I or should I not accept this offer. Since I haven't yet applied to any other institutes like LSE, Kings etc I am wondering if it would n't be a better idea to apply to these institutions this year and then decide accordingly.
However NUS I guess is a good university yet I really dont know much about it. Pleaseeeeeeeeeee help me make up my mind! Can anybody please tell me if it is a good idea to accept the NUS offer or wait till next year??

If you want to be in Asia, NUS is a no-brainer. I would pick NUS, although LSE would be a good option also. Haven't heard very promising things about the LLM dept at Kings, but maybe I'm wrong. LSE is more funded apparently, so better resources.

Hi guys. I just accepted the offer from NUS for the LLM in maritime law. Will be great. Not sure where to stay though, but I guess I will apply for a room at campus. Any other ideas? Anyone else attending the maritime program? What are your backgrounds - any experience from the maritime field?

They've released the new fees for most of the courses on their website, and there is no fee change in Maritime Law.
The new accommodation block at the main campus looks much better. Have heard such bad things about Evans! there's apparently a shuttle b/w the two campuses, so staying at the main one shouldn't be an issue.
@Mads : I work for a P&I correspondency and maritime consultancy firm, what about you?

Hi all, I have received the offer for International Business Law LL.M but am still trying to raise the fund for tuition et. al. Does anybody know whether the Service Obligation scheme is applicable for this program?
I understand from the acknowlegdment letter that they will not be giving out infos until mid-May but does anybody know how the payment schedule works?
Appreciate response.

Hey everyone! My name is Beenish and I got my acceptance in International and Comparative Law. Any idea how to go about the on campus accommodation? Has anyone applied for any accommodation yet?
Posted Apr 04, 2011 22:35
Dhar: I've also understood that the different accommodation options have various standards. I read some about the new Utown that seems nice and very social :) And yes, I also want to live at Kent campus. The bus drive should be ok. But we'll see, not many spots..
I'm currently at the fourth year of a five year master in law in Norway. The LLM will substitute the fifth year in Norway. So I'm not that experienced from the maritime field. But I do have some trainee-ships from big law firms in Norway and from the government. So I guess I have to study hard to keep up with you ;) But I'm used to that.. :)
Do you know how many attending the maritime law program? I saw some statistics from the year 2009/2010 year. There was 13 students at the maritime program. Not many. So I guess we'll get to know each other well :)

IBlawyer, as far as I know you don´t need to pay until you register in July. So you´ve got enough time : )
I also got into the IBL programme. I´m from Spain, what about you?

I think you should ask the law dept about the availability of the service obligation scheme for the IBL.
@Mads: haha, i doubt it would be difficult to keep up with me, i know a little about the industry but the LLM course is brand new for me! yeah, i saw that the actual course has an average of about 15 people, but the undergrads taking maritime law units also apparently share our lectures. I think there are about 5 people on the forum who are going to NUS for maritime law. (Norway huh? One of my closest friends from uni is from Stavanger!)

Hi Nacho, i'm from Indonesia. I am still looking for financing options but hopefully will get everything together by July.
Look forward to meeting you and everyone.
Please could anyone share about this service obligation scheme. Thanks.

Hey Dhar. Thankyou for the information.
I think living on campus is a good idea, but the bus ride is 30 mins from the Kent Campus to the Bukit Timah Campus. How about the Singapore International Campus? It's a private hostel and just a few mins of walk form the Bukit Timah!

so you guys are all going to IBL and maritime?
Posted Apr 06, 2011 22:47
Yes, going for the maritime field. I wasn't sure though, I was accepted for the IBL programme as well. But the maritime field is exciting and will (hopefully) make me understand and be competent in one important sector instead of a touch into several sectors. After some emails with professor Girvin (head of the maritime programme) I was convinced that this was the right programme for me. And, I wanted to live in Singapore for a whole year...
Dhar: Your have a friend from Stavanger?? Cool. How did that happen? :) We aren't that many Norwegians (haha). Have you heard anything about good subjects to choose? When are we choosing subjects by the way, before or after semester start?
