@Ngannp
for a clarification on that, please check up with Prof. Alan Tan regarding service obligation details. He would be the best person to advise you on this. alternatively, you may email lawgradadm@nus.edu.sg (i believe you would have received your offer letter fromt the same email) and find out the exact details.
cheers

i can understand. the Fee is being increased progressively. it was only 6000 SGD for the class of 2009, became 14K last year and has been increased again.. nevertheless, quite competitive as compared to most other univs. you have a lot of time though, session for CFS usually begins in early august. did you get in touch with any of the current students?

Hi,
I've received an offer for the LL.M. Program at NUS/China yesterday. Does anyone know whether it is feasible from the course schedule to work part-time during the course? How many hours do we have classes per week?
Thanks!

Hi,
congratulations for making it to the IBL programme. depending on whether you're from a common law country or a civil jurisdiction, the course starts in early July (for civil law students, who have to take two compulsory subjects on common law reasoning/ writing and common law of obligations) or early August (common law students). all the subjects (except chinese Intellectual property in Shanghai) are conducted intensively over a 2-3 weeks period, with 3 hours of daily classes during weekdays. that leaves you with quite a bit to read up yourself on a regular basis (lest you rush through the entire syllabus around the exams!!!).

before going to Shanghai, NUS will provide you with a brief 2-3 weeks internship in Singapore (firms/ Court/ govt. organisations). the stay in Singapore passes by rather quickly and you would not be encouraged to intern at any other time besides the said internship period.

China: the visa that is issued to you does not permit you to work. however, there have been a few students in the past, who have had brief internships in china during the vacations, and some have even interned while the course goes on. keep in mind however, that Shanghai is a huge city and you would be spending significant time to travel to work and back, depending on where you stay. besides, there are subjects where assessment is done by way of assignments, so you'l have to coordinate that accordingly.

if you're from a common law jurisdiction, you can opt for another intensive subject in early august (the options for which will be given to you sometime in June and you should reply promptly to get yourself a seat in that class). with that, your workload is divided into 5 subjects each semester. The subject that you skip in China during second semester (when a total of 7 subjects are taught) could then be utilised for internship (say around 3 weeks).

Cheers

I am with civil jurisdiction background so I understand that I have to take up one compulsory course about common law, it normally starts in early July??? So on an average how many hours I have to spend in class in a day so that I can manage a part time job?
I heard that they just allow students to do part time job with limited hours per week, is it applied for graduate students?
I dont know any current students as of now, can u plz help to introduce some of them?

Hello everyone - I received an offer for the LLM at NUS earlier this week. So excited. Have to scramble for a career development loan now, but I'm sure it'll be fine.

I'm in my final year of law in England - after a degree with the compulsory qualifying subjects for UK practice, doing an LLM with no concentration gives such a sense of freedom. A lot of the seminars look really interesting.

Congratulations to everyone else with an offer!

Not yet I guess, as far as i know NUS starts sending the results during the last week of March which continues to pour till the end of April's first week.

This scheme allows graduate students to get reduced tuition fee, however it is not eligible for LLM students.
I suppose that many of us didnt get scholarship so I wonder how many scholarships r going to be granted this AY? It must be very limited though.

Hi. I got through both CFS (Singapore) and IBL (Shanghai). I am from India. Any views which one is a better option? Especially if one wants to look at future job prospects in Singapore...
Btw, I also didn't get a scholarship...

i have a big confusion now! my offer letter says i've been accepted to the LLM programme. It does not specifically mention c&fs.. Is there a diff from that and a general LLM or do you have to ultimately necessarily opt for one of the areas like Corporate and Financial Services Law, Intellectual Property & Technology Law, International & Comparative Law, Maritime Law and Asian Legal Studies? is c&fs mentioned specifically in the offer letters of those who got say they've got into that course?

please help!

Well in my case on the offer letter the concentration was mentioned that i had applied for e.g. LL.M in IP & Tech Law.
