I am also applying.

Canada40, nice to know you are also applying. Are you currently teaching or planning to do so in the future? I understand the LLM class is very small and selective, and I am trying to fancy my chances while the long wait continues. I am from Sub-saharan Africa. I guess you are Canadian?! I am not reallly sure what the admission board is looking for besides the committment to teaching stuff: the form is definitely the shortest LLM form I have come across in recent times.

hey guys, count me in too..
Am L&E from India. The Research Agenda will play a major part as well as the recommendations and any earlier teaching experience.
I understand that the academic market in the States requires that the candidate have a well thought out research agenda as scholarship is on a premium;
in my opinion, because Yale is assembly-line for aspirants eying that and other academic markets (where too, the research agenda cannot hurt), the requirements for Yale will roughly mirroe US academic market requirements. that means, research agenda assumes significance...

I just got an email from Yale requesting some document to complete my file. Should i read anything into this?
Posted Jan 05, 2010 15:50
Obviously you should !! Whar is the document ?
Posted Jan 05, 2010 15:57
ya; What is the document that you have not submitted..?
But I doubt if there is anything to be read into this. My answer is in the negative... We should all be vary of the "anchoring effect... You should not read in to it too much.

Thanks L&E,
I agree with you. It was a document relating to a statement of ranking in law school.

Its all good my friend :) All the best with the application...

Kobay...
I think it means they have started looking at your application and they need that material to enable them reach a decision about your application. I suggest you send it ASAP if possible by courrier, or you may ask them if it could be scanned and e-mailed to them.
Remember admission decisions are communicated 2nd week of march, and this means that it probably would have been decided by the end of Feb. Dont think we have much time left to wait.
Goodluck.

L&E,
I agree with you about the roles the research agenda and recommendations will play in the admission process. About the research agenda, i structured mine to suit my country's needs; since i wish to teach in my country. I just hope it is found good enough.

Hey guys, I've also applied to Yale. I completely agree with you in terms of the terse application. I have a friend who got in a few years ago, right around the time of the Gore v Bush case in the Supreme Court. Her proposal had to do with the electoral system, turned out to be pivotal to her admission - so, yes, I think the research proposal is very important. To put this in context: she had a 2.1. in her undergraduate, but a 1.1 a Masters, as well as recommendations from the pre-eminent Constitutional Law scholar in our country and a High Court judge that she was working for at the time.

Do anybody know when yale releases its decisions ? Late march? Early march? April? By phone? email?
Thanks :)
Thanks :)

I heard that last year they sent the responses late February. Apparently, they call each candidate before sending an email.

that's pretty early comparing to Harvard ...
So I guess it will be heartbreaking for the person who will see an american number appearing on his phone.. :)

Their website says mid-march. I just wonder whether all the info is correct.

I am just stating how/when it happened to a friend of mine who is currently at Yale doing his LLM. Websites tend to say a lot of things, and not all the time accurately. Anyway, things can always change one year to the other. Maybe they received more applications this year, who know. I just recall that their deadline for submissions was two weeks before HLS, so it make sense that they sent responses a little before.

Thank for sharing this info !
Hope it will be as early as last year..

"Your application for admission to the Yale Law School LL.M. Program for 2010-11 is now complete. You will be notified of the Graduate Committee's decision on your application in March or April"
I have no reason to doubt the above!
