hi,

I wrote to them and got the following response:

"As of this time, we have allocated all of the limited funds available for LLM financial assistance. It is possible, though highly unlikely, that one of those who has been offered assistance will not accept our offer. In that case, we would have funds to allocate to another candidate. We will not have this information until sometime in April. For planning purposes, you should assume that there will not be any financial assistance available."

So has anyone got a positive on aid from them? if they have already allocated financial aid then those are the beneficiaries should have heard.

Got the same answer yesterday.
What is the exact budget for UPenn without scholarship?
Is there an alumni who could give us an exact view of the costs?
Thank you

Hi
Log in to the Upenn admitted students page and check out the costs. I think theres USD 40k in direct fee + 2K for summer programme plus miscellaneous library fees and books and related expenses. I've made the calculations for myself and including living costs i think it comes to about USD 60K to 65K, which is a great deal of money. I see u also have made to boston university. why are you disinclined to consider Upenn (apart from the lack of scholarship/tuition waiver)? Im caught between Upenn and NYU myself.

I just got an email from Penn telling me not to hold my breath regarding financial aid. I don't think i'll be getting anything, but there is a very slim chance (judging from prior years) that they'll call on 31 March telling me that they'll give me $10K (unlikely).

Have you'll applied for the WCBL? Any replies regarding admission? When do you think we'll hear (before 1 April)? I don't have the 3 year experience requirement so I don't know if i'll be admitted.

I have applied for WCBL. I have less than 3 years experience have have applied for a waiver of the requirement. Im not very hopeful of receiving the same but crossing my fingers. I understand we can sit in on one of the wharton courses (free of cost) anyway. thats good enough. In any event i dont know if i can afford the extra USD 10K that the WCBL costs.

Mr. Easter, have you made up your mind to go to Upenn?

oh, sorry i forgot to mention this in my previous post, this is what Upenn had to say about declaring admission decisions for WBCL.

"The Wharton certificate program applications are currently under review. Decisions will be made in the next several weeks, though we do not have a specific date at this time."

WHAT was your excuse to get exepmtion? I based mine on breath and depth of experience in different practice areas, maturity etc.... (I have 1.5 years).

What's your background. Country, experience etc?

They really should tell us before 1 April so that we can make an informed decision.

Correct me if i'm wrong. I don't think we can take Wharton courses "free of charge". From what i understand, we can take two at the expense of law courses. ie the total courses will still add up to 23 hours.

I am of course considering BU as well...
UPenn has a better ranking but ranking sometimesa are misleading.
Do you guys think that UPenn will grant other scholarships? frankly speaking the emails we received in that respect looked quite clear on the point: "do not rely on scholarships!!!"

Sorry I have been travelling, so could not reply earlier.

I applied for exemption citing my international exposure in the banking and finance sector for 2 years (during which period I have even led teams). I also pointed out that I studied (and topped) my class in high school in commerce which included accounting, business forms and regulation and economics and I also studied economics in law school (I gave them this background information so that they know I can catch up and keep up with the content of the course). I do hope they'll consider the waiver, although I havent yet heard from them.

As regards the "free of cost" courses, yes I was speaking of the 2 courses that you may be permitted to attend.

Any news on the aid front? I have heard nothing - Oh, also to let you know, I paid my initial deposit yesterday :) See you all in Philly.

"Dear Ms. ...:

I am writing to let you know that as of this writing, all of Penn Law s financial assistance for LLMs, including scholarship funds, have been allocated to other candidates.

Best wishes."

I finally chose Boston University. They gave me 20.000 dollars.

Please note that I have received the following information from UPenn:

Tuition 41,600
General Fee 2,000
Summer Program 2,000
Technology Fee 730
Total 46,330

This means that the price for a year got much much higher with respect to last year.
