U Penn and UC Berkeley. Help me choosing?

Ruler

Hi guys.

Briefly, I am officially in U Penn LL.M 2016-2017.

Waiting for UC Berkeley. Not sure, I would say I will be in. Let's say I have a good chance to be a candidate.

Now. What would you choose if you were in my shoes?

Please do not tell me SF is such a wonderful place, go to UC Berkeley.

That's true. But, based on their academic achievements.

U Penn is an Ivy league. UC Berkeley is not.

On the other hand,

UC Berkeley is way advanced in ranking as an overall ranking.

Your comments, please.

This is one of the closest choices and very difficult.

I think UPenn has a slight prestige advantage over UCB, may be different in your country. That said the academics at UCB are much superior and some of the best professors are based there. UPenn's law school is the weakest among its faculties and survives by the association with its engineering and business schools.

If you intend to aim for a new york law firm job which is quite hard in this time, I suggest Penn, if not UCB.

Hi there.

As a matter of fact, there is no doubt UCB rank is above UPenn...

How's UPenn survived by the association with its engineering and business school? U Penn Law is ranks 7th among other US law schools.

Plus, you can have a business certificate from Wharton Business School in conjunction with your LL.M . That's what's said in their site. Wharton Business ranks 3rd .

By the way, I am going to corporate world.

Such a hard choice ( giving that I must choose one of them, if UCB rejected me there is no problem sure...

Your comments are important. Please do.

obviously, go wherever they give you more scholarship..other things being equal money should be the only factor when choosing between schools within the T14 (unless money is not an issue for you)

Money is not an issue. I have a scholarship from an independent institution.

Your comment?

My brain says UPenn

My heart says UCB

I would say that you have to think of what you want to do after graduation. If you are really trying to stay in the U.S. be aware that more than anything else your chances depend on the network that youcreate and people that you meet. bottom line the alumni network. Not sure which network is stronger between these two schools, of course for LLM it might be even harder to find someone whos willing to help you out.

Personally I got into UPENN, consider it for a while but then lost interest after talking to some of the LLM alumni - nothing specific but I just didnt get the idea that they got what they paid for. Wharton certificate makes no difference, just another way to pull out some money out of LLMs..much better choice is to look which school allows you to take more credits outside the law school (at business school) and get that business education without extra charge. I think UPENN allows only three credits. not sure what berkley offers.

I see. I am confused. Are telling me you regret going there?

sorry didnt mean to confuse you. i wanted to say that I considered UPENN as it was originally my top choice but then i decided for a different school..if i were to say the bottom line it would be that i just didnt feel like people who went to UPENN were thrilled about their choice. in a different thread people are currently arguing which is better whether chicago or columbia and go on how they love their school and everybody in it. its a stupid argument (and a stupid fight as a matter of fact) cause virtually everyone will argue their choice was the best, except UPENN.. at least i got the impression from talking to a couple of alumni (if an UPENN LLM alum reads this and disagrees please share your insight).im sure that the school is great as far as academics. But to me personal experience of people who went to the program is an important indicator especially for us LLMs as most of the noise you hear about a particular law school is just about the JD program..
