Congrats to everyone that got in! I just got waitlisted. Does anybody know how many people get waitlisted on average and what the odds of being accepted once you have been waitlisted are?

Congrats to everyone who got admitted! I got admitted as well. My requirements list went blank at some point in the last month (although I am not sure when). I noticed only last Saturday.

There was a Whatsapp group created by the candidates who got admitted to Penn. Is there a similar Whatsapp group for UChicago? Should we create one?

Hello everyone!
First of all, I hope that you are doing well and many congratulations on your admissions and achievements! I am genuinely happy for you all!
Secondly, I have just learned that I have been waitlisted. To be quite honest, I am really surprised by this decision. I thought I had a very solid application and I am trying to understand what are the reasons behind this verdict.
I got a high score on the TOEFL, good recommendations, a Master of Laws with Honors from a top law school, a high-ranking bar admission, at last two years of professional experience etc. I was also admitted to other US law schools and was offered merit scholarships. Do you think that the Admissions Committee was looking for specific profiles for the class of 2021-2022? I have a background in mainly public law and human rights. Do any of you, admitted candidates, also have a similar background? I was wondering if the Admissions Committee preferred candidates with a private law background for the class of 2021-2022.
Also, the number of waitlisted applicants for this year’s class seems to be unusually high. Do you think that this has something to do with the ongoing sanitary crisis and the resulting deferred admissions? Does this mean that US law schools will actually be accepting less applicants than usual? Would you send the Admissions Committee a statement of continuing interest?
In your opinion, do candidates who have been waitlisted by UChicago have a chance of getting accepted to other very prestigious law schools?
My apologies for being lengthy. Thank you for your time!
Have a great day 1f60a

Hi - same here! I’ve been waitlisted too! Does this mean that I hold a very low chance in getting through other UChicago equivalent prestigious universities? Also, if I re-apply this year, would my waitlisting / rejection be considered?

Hello!

I just want to cheer up all the one's on the waiting-list. There are many factors that recruiters take into consideration that we are just not aware. Being waitlisted is a great sign! I have 3 colleagues that are Harvard graduates and they all where waitlisted, there is going to be a lot of movement on the next month. I know its hard but lets wait and see how everything goes!

Being waitlisted by a Uni does not mean that others are gonna act the same way. Personally I have been admitted and waitlisted. There is nothing good in overthinking or rationalizing why X which a lower ranking waitlisted me and others in the top 6 admitted me.

Also keep in mind that many unis release scholarship info until mid march and for many of us that is an important factor and that a regular applicant has multiple admissions but can only attend to one and they will have to decline to unis and spaces are gonna open.

Hope this works for your mental peace! Being waitlisted are great news! Just keep it with the follow-up!

I have been waitlisted by U Chicago and accepted, for now, to Penn, NYU, and Georgetown. Also, a couple years ago, a close friend of mine was waitlisted by Chicago and got accepted to Columbia.

That proves that you can perfectly be accepted to other prestigious schools, despite being waitlisted in Chicago :)

Good luck!!

*this is just my opinion* U Chicago tends to be the most conservative (i.e. Republican) law school in the T14s.  They are known for their economic and antitrust law ideology.  With that in mind, someone with a more human rights background might seem to fit in less with the schools academic background.  Does not mean that you're not qualified just that they might not feel like they can help further your career development like, for example, Columbia or Harvard.

Thank you for replying - did you apply before the initial deadline? Also, any idea how many Indians were accepted/waitlisted?

I applied on the deadline. No idea if any other Indians have been admitted/waitlisted - I just know of one person other than myself.
