Should I call Berkeley for a decision?

ja83

Hi,

I have received an offer from Georgetown for an LLM. I have to make my decision by the 1st April 2009. But I really want to go to Berkeley. However, Berkeley said that they give their offers in April 2009. What do I do`? SHould I call them and ask them to give me a decision?

Hope anyone can help..

don't think you're likely to get a decision if you called them for...but you can always try! perhaps is a little early for such enquiry. you can keep waiting till March 1st... I'm waiting to hear from Berkeley too. best of luck!

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

I was not actually going to call them now. It is a bit too early. Im thinking of doing it March 1st. But in the email they sent me they said I should not contact them to inquire about my application.

Would it ruin my chances?

I completely forgot about this warning... if so, you shouldn't call them any time... just bet on your chances to get admitted at UC Berkeley... I know you're likely to waste time for not giving up your spot at GT, which - trust me- is great, but I see no other option... that's the only advise I can offer you...

thanks for the reply.

What about just sending off the confirmation for GT and paying the deposit. And then, if I get an offer from Berkeley, I retract my acceptance to GT. Dont think it would be an issue. I only lose out on the deposit...

Sometimes students send letters of interest in this kind of cases.. I am not sure whether it actually helps hear about the decision any quicker though..

If I understand you right, you have to make your decision at the latest on April 1st. Accordingly, there is need to hurry. If you have not heard anything from Berkeley until March, you can still contact Berkeley.

Also in the same position, although I belive it is normal to accept an offer and withdraw it after you get an offer from other University you like most... They are used to it and that is why they prepare waiting lists (and that is why you lose your seat reservation deposit...).

Thanks for the reply. Unless I receive a better offer, I think I will submit my acceptance form for Georgetown. If I then receive an offer afterwards, I will then suck up the financial loss and withdraw my offer from GT.

thanks!

i emailed Berk. in March last year and they (fairly quickly) sent me a rejection email (which was later followed by a rejection letter). I don't think my email caused the rejection, as they were very polite in the multiple emails I exchanged with them.
