S.O.S from Venezuela

Douglas

Hi, I'm Douglas from Venezuela, I'm really interested in doing a LL.M in Houston TX. But the problem is that I got my bachelor's degree here at Venezuela. Do I have to study laws again at the US? What should I do to apply for the LL.M?

Hi, I am from Bulgaria and couple of years ago I was in the same position as you. No, you dont need to study again law in order to do LLM in USA, but u have to consider that almost none of the programms teher give full scholarships. I would advise you to try in Europe especially the Netherlands. Check this site www.nuffic.nl. Ducth government provides a lot of scholarships for developing countries especially.

Hy Douglas, I'm also a Venezuelan Attorney and I moved to USA in 2004. A lot of the LL.M programs are for foreing and US attorneys. You just need to make sure you pick a program that is open for foreign attorney. Depending of which Law School you want to apply you need to feel out the requirements they explain in the aplication form or in their admission web page. For instance you can dowload the apllication from the University of Houston using this link. http://www.law.uh.edu/llm/masters.pdf .
For more information about University of Houston LLM program check this link http://www.law.uh.edu/llm/
I hope this information helps you and good luck!!!

Hi Bonita, i am in a very similiar situation as Douglas. In such sense id like to know if i must take some tests, besides TOFFEL, as a prior requirement to be addmited into a LLM program. Thank you and good luck.

Not that I know Alberto, I think that most of the LLM programs just ask for TOEFL test, but you will have to check the school you want to apply to make sure which are the requirements to apply.
Good luck,
