NYU Waitlist

Congratulations to all who have been granted admission to NYU. I was wondering if there are many like me who have been placed on the waiting list. It would be nice if we could come up with an approximate number, to better know our prospects.

Hi,
Can you tell me more about this waitlist?
When are they going to make a final decision about people from that list? How does it work?

All I know is that they have prepared a waitlist in anticipation of selected candidates electing to read at other universities or, I suppose, deferring admission to next year. However, the university has not released information regarding how many are on the waitlist, or what the trend was last year. This is what I am trying to figure out. I also have another query - how many people does the university send offers to in the first instance? If there are 450 seats, does it make offers to 450, after which there is a waitlist, or does it make offers at the first instance to 800, after which there is a waitlist? I'd be grateful if anyone can come up with answers to these queries.

Hi there. I do not know the answers to your queries, however I was placed in the waiting list and have the same concerns you have. Have you tried calling to the admissions office? Please let me know. Great posts, thank you all.

Hi,
I did speak to the office, and have also received the UPS courier with some details about the waitlist. We should know some time in May about their decision. This is because all acceptances from the first list will be in by then. They apparently don't rank the waitlist. I wonder if their determinations are based on factors such as the geographical location of the candidates who have vacated their seats. A friend of mine says this is one of the factors Chicago considers. I don't think there is much we can do until people start making decisions abt whether to attend NYU or not. Considering HLS is not out and CLS is still going on, this will take a while...

I will not take the admission offer most likely, so feel free to take my place :))

I will decide between Penn/Wharton Certificate and Columbia (if I am admitted, I haven't herd from them so far...). I would take Penn/W over NYU.

Thanks for explanation. Really helpful.
