Anyone else still waiting for a decision? NYU (admit, deny or WL?)
NYU Tax Decisions?

I seriously doubt that they will be putting anyone on the waitlist at this point. No one has really responded regarding NYU admissions in nearly a month, though I do believe kar was recently turned down. Texasaggie and Shoortie, are you still out there?!?
Also, the registration lottery is set to be run this coming friday so I am inclined to believe that the vast majority of decisions should have been made by that point.

I'm worried that they don't have any spaces left now... But thanks for the update.

When did you turn in your application? Did you receive any sort of news from them so far? Are you domestic or foreign applicant? What are your stats like? With this information I might be able to give you more information.

When did you submit your application originally? When in May did they ask for additional information from you and when did you send it in? Which end of tier 2 is your law school, the upper end of lower end? Also do you have any journal/ law review experience and what about relevant work experience?
Simply based on tier of law school and class rank I would say it is close but leaning towards a rejection probably.

I'd say the rank is not a good sign, but the fact that they didnt outright reject you is a good sign. I assume you just graduated law school this past month otherwise they wouldnt be asking for additional information, did your final transcript show any particular improvements or deficiencies?
Perhaps you should call them tomorrow to get more information?

I'd say my spring transcript was about the same, maybe a little better, than normal.
I was trying to refrain from calling them again until Monday, but if there's course registration on Friday I should probably call since everyone at my mailing address just left on vacation today, or actually yesterday (depending on LOC).
May I ask how long after you received an accepted package, it was before the online website worked for you? Did it work before or after you received your letter, and were you notified by FEDEX or by Email?

When did you last call them, what did you ask, and what was their response.
I submitted my application mid-february and it became complete the first week of March. I received my acceptance the first week of May and it came via regular mail. My letter was dated 5/3 and I received it 5/7. THe admitted students website definitely worked for me on 5/8 but I dont recall checking it for at least a week before that date and it didnt work at those times.
If you'd like my stats, I went to a school in the top40 and at the time I applied I was just outside the top 33% of my class with journal experience and clinic experience. I hadnt taken a lot of tax classes aside from that. When I finally did graduate I was in the top 25% of my class.

Wow you had a really impressive jump in rank your last semester, to baypass the top third percentile. Congrats.
Thanks for the additional information on the STATS. I wish NYU would publish their STATS so applicants would have a better idea what to expect, and wheter or not to keep their hopes up!
I had just called to see if there was anything else I could send in, and they said my file was in review. (and not to send faxes)

I had a big jump thanks for 4A's and 1 A-. The general rule on NYU is: Top tier- 25-33% T2- 10-25% T3- 5-15% T4- 5-10%.
Of course those are general guidelines and things like law review, work experience, tax classes, personal statement, and recommendations play a role that help those on the lower end of the above mentioned percentages and maybe even outside of the percentage get in.
As for the June 15 registration deadline, that is just the lottery deadline. You can still add and drop classes after the lotteries for fall and spring are done sometime in July. So I would say they may still be letting people.
I say wait a week after you called last and then call and ask simply if a decision has been made. Chances are they wont tell you the decision but they will tell you if one has been made.
Also I am going to bed soon, so my reply to your next message will be my last for the night.

Setho!! I think I got in!!! The admitted students website works for me!!!!! It even lets you pay the deposit with a credit card, how nice of them.
Posted Jun 14, 2007 01:23
Congratulations!!! The credit card availability is nice but they charge a $12.50 fee which is kinda ridiculous. It still takes a number of days after processing your deposit before you get a NYUHome account so even if you pay the deposit online you wont be able to take part in the lottery before Friday. I would call them tomorrow to see what is up with that.
Posted Jun 14, 2007 01:36
I should probably pay it now then, in the hope that the account works by Friday. I still don't have the mail packet that tells me how to participate in the lottery, and the 'admitted students' site doesn't seem to have info either. I'm going to call as soon as I get the packet... so I don't embarass myself in the event it is a computer glitch that let me sign in and change my password. ... I wonder if they'd would refund me back the $512.50 if I paid and turns out I wasn't accepted...
Posted Jun 14, 2007 01:38
I think you misread my post, whether you pay tonight or not, there is no way you are going to be set up by friday. It takes a few days for the deposit to be processed and then it cant take about a week to get your NYUHome account which is needed to register. Save your $12.50 and sit on it tonight and call them tomorrow.

I understand now. I mis-red 'a number of days' to mean 'a couple of days.' That, and it doens't really feel like a Wednesday already.
Posted Jun 14, 2007 01:49
So I am glad to hear you are gonna be going to NYU. Did you have to swallow any deposits for other schools? I dont know if the deadlines have passed but Georgetown gave full and partial deposit refunds if you tell them by a certain date.

I had only also accepted an offer at BU, which offered me a scholarship. I'll most likely choose NYU now though because I have family there, and it's reputation in the tax field. I
'm trying to put a schedule together and maybe they'll let me fax it in to register in lieu of albert, along with the prerequisite waivers, tomorrow.
