I am in the process of applying to NYU. Could you please let me know whether I can submit recommendation letters through mail? The website states that you must register your recommenders online and they must submit recommendations through. Actually my recommenders are not much used to e-mail and they have already provided the confidential recommendation letters to me.

We are in the same boat.
It can be possible to submit more than two recommendation letters through mail, but you can not submit more than two recommender names via online. The online process provides for only two referee names.
You can write an e-mail to Graduate Admissions to confirm in this regard. Yesterday, I wrote to them asking for submitting the recommendations via mail, not received any response yet.

You can definitely submit the recommendations via mail (see p. 6 of the application instructions). Plus, I did so, too and my application was reported as "complete".

To the other question: you can only submit two letters of recommendation.
