NYU LLM

PoP-LLM

Hi guys! =)

I am in the process of getting my applications together for LLMs beginning in the autumn/fall of 2011 and am very interested in applying for the LLM in Corporation Law at NYU.

I currently hold an LLB degree with Honours from the UK, having graduated in the summer of 2009 from one of the top five law schools. I have a fair 2:1 (around the 65% mark), A LOT of extra curriculars, and a good amount of work experience (after graduation I have been lucky enough to spend nearly 7 months abroad working as a paid legal intern)

I am aware of the discussions on this forum about job prospects following any LLM degree but my main concern is with regard to my chances of actually getting in. There seems to be a lot of useful opinions floating around here and I for one, would like to benefit from them!=)

So-how do u rate my chances? Should I lower my expectations and look at other US Law Schools or should I scrap the US idea altogether and stick to the UK ( I already have had offers in the UK from law schools within the top 10)....do I even stand a chance of getting into NYU?

Hello,

I have been admitted to the LLM Program Corporations Law as a graduate (Master) from Kyiv National University. I also had a bunch of extracurricular activities. They do appreciate it very much! Therefore, I guess, you have to stick to your dream! NYU is very possible, which I can judge from my own experience! Gon on for it if you sincerely want it!
Before this, you have to think, however, if you really need international experience and the specific education in Corporation Law.

Hi everyone,

Can anybody in the NYU LL.M tell us more about the University environnement? No doubt Greenwich Village is cool but I'm a little worried there are hundreds of LL.M students compared to other law schools... I've studied law in France and am really looking for small classes, interaction with professors and other students etc.

For personal reasons, I'm only looking at NYC and am also considering CLS and Fordham.

Any insight would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Hi, PoP-LLM,
I would like to answer PoP-LLM, though much delayed.
I agree with Anna-LLM that you got very fair chances of getting into NYU LLM and there is no doubt about it. All the best with your application process.

However, still I strongly believe that This is the time for you to continue your internship and get some job experience alteast for another 1 or 2 years and then go for LLM, anywhere in US or to that matter in UK itself.(don't forget that UK is known for some of the top Law schools in the world). In case if you are interested in US to get some international experience, then you can go for US schools itself. (No matter, even you do your LLM from top UK schools still you can get into US market. And don't forget all most all top law schools in the world require atleast 2/3 years of work experiecne for their LLMs. Rest upto you.

Thanks,
Best of Luck.

Hi Pop!

NYU is my dream too and I am going to apply even though my credentials are far worse than yours! I think you should definitely apply... if some of the others are right and you need more work experience to be accepted, then after you are rejected you can just keep working and try again next year. All you've lost is about 75 USD.

I am so envious of you having ANY work experience at all... I will graduate in February 2011 and want to apply for Fall 2011... I don't think anywhere will accept me with no full time experience even though I will hopefully graduate with first class honours. But if you really want it you have to try.

Good Luck... maybe some miracle will happen for me and we will be there together next year!
