Northwestern vc Georgetown

LLM_06

Hello guys,

I have just received an e-mail stating that I have been admitted to the LLM at Northwestern. As I have also been admitted to Georgetown, I would like to know if anyone could provide me with information about how Georgetown compares with Northwestern, mainly in terms of reputation in the US and teaching quality (weather, night life, etc. do not matter to me). I know that Northwestern is better ranked in US News, but this confirms the overall superiority of Northwestern? I intend to focus my studies on Antitrust and Telecom Law.

Thank you!

tis one is a hrd comparision..both r known 4 ther strengths in corporate law..i think georgetown is bettr for anti-trust though..
northwestern faculty has been facin some problems with th dean ther (thts the word going around!) n many of thm hav even quit but things have improved a lot ovr last 1 yr..n in northwestern you can take some classes in Kellogg B-School as well..n chicago is a gr8 city..
same goes 4 georgetown tho..washington's a gr8 city..n its very well-known 4 its corporate law focus..
th only major diff perhaps cud b th size of llm class (80 at northwestern n 300+ at georgetown)..
but do let us kno by wen do u hv 2 confirm at northwestern n wen did u apply ther..CONGRATS again..

Instead of U.S. News rankings, I would rely on Brian Leiter's. In his ranking, Georgetown leads on both faculty and student quality. Northwestern is quite close, though, so perhaps you should make your decision on other grounds. Is there a certain professor you admire in either Georgetown or Northwestern? Which has larger alumni? Which has more courses you would be interested in? Would you like to work in Chicago or Washington? Are libraries as good? Because both school are ranked so close to each other, I wouldn't choose the program solely on rankings.

Comparing the two cities - I have so say I absolutely adore Washington DC (and the hip/trendy Georgetown area). I used to live there, and I was never bored. You also have the pretty bay area not too far away, and some very lovely weather, all seasons but not too cold. And you will be so close to everything important - Capitol Hill, White House and of course: US Supreme Court. Good luck with choosing :D

Thank you for your very helpful inputs. I am still struggling to make a decision. Nevertheless, I am waiting other universities...Let´s see.

I have to say sorry to you all that I have to ask a question to LLM_06 about NWU admission. Did you do interview with NWU, and what kind of interview you did?
thanks

In fact, I didn't do the telephonic interview. It is not mandatory.

Just to share with you guys: I am pending towards Georgetown. I know that it is a little bit lower tha NWU in US News rankings, but I am taking into account that: (a) Georgetown offers more course options on telecom and regulation law (in fact, I was quite impressed with their offerings); and (b) I want to do an SJD, a degree offered by Georgetown, but not by Northwestern, and as you guys know, it is better to do both degrees in the same university.
Any thoughts?
