It seems like those two Schools are requiring rankings or a statement from your University stating that they don't rank their students.

What other schools require that?
Shall I still apply for these schools if you donot have that?

I don't know what other schools may require it.
I would apply anyway, but be aware that they will most likely ask for the ranking certificate, so meanwhile try to either get one or et an statement from your University saying that they don't rank their students.
good luck!

My worry is that IF i donot give that to them, my whole application package will be INCOMPLETE..

It might, but you can always obtain the certificate, or explain them why you are not able to do so. If you provide them with a valid reason I'm sure they will be reasonable enough to consider your application complete.
You lose nothing by applying, so go for it.

My uni didn't give ranking information, so I just got a letter from them saying that and it was totally fine - I was accepted into nearly all the unis I applied for.

What did the letter say?''
You sent it each LLM school>?

My uni sent it to LSAC with my transcript, and LSAC distributed it with my transcript. I didn't see the letter. I talked a little bit about this on my blog: http://llmstudent.aussieblogs.com.au/llm-transcripts-and-referees/

Hey there!
I also had the same problem. Columbia asked a class rank statement. At the time of my application I didn't know they require something like that or if my school issues such statement. However, last week my school sent the ranking statement to LSAC and right now it still shows that my transcripts are under review. ( They were complete before...) I hope they will finish processing it until November 1st and I will be considered for early application of Columbia. On the other hand, NYU didn't ask for such statement yet and the status checker shows my application as complete. Maybe they will ask for it later.

Gcb, I also have the same problem.
LSAC has received and evaluated my transcript without my school rank. After reading this post, I had my school rank sent to LSAC last Friday, and my school rank is expected to reach their office this Monday/Tuesday. Wondering whether I can reach the 1 Nov deadline.

I called LSAC. They explained that it is the deadline for you to submit your application. The review affects only the Law School Report - which will be provided to the law school upon request.
Assuming it is true (and you have submitted your application before the deadline), you should hv no issue with your transcript under review.

I just want to point out that I have not provided my class ranking and that both Columbia and NYU never asked me to provide them with such information. My application has been marked completed in both schools. So I am guessing that they only request rankings from certain candidates based on their school and their past experiences with students coming from said schools.
Good Luck to all regardsless.

Some transcripts include a ranking statement, could this be your case?
Posted Oct 22, 2013 18:29
Nope... Look I graduated in March 2013 and in my school the diploma ceremony is conducted in March of the following year, 2014. That is also when they calculate class rankings. So I know for a fact that my transcript does not have my ranking in it.
But I've never explained any of this to any school, and I have yet to have encountered any difficulty. No one requested my ranking and all my applications have been marked completed. I really think it works on a school-by-school basis and their past experiences with students coming from those schools.

But you didnt state your class rank in the app form right?? I filled the blank because that I thought they ask for an approximate rank (new york asks for approximate for example. Though they still did not requested my class rank). I guess columbia asked from me because that I flled the blank regarding my class rank in the app form.

Columbia asks for the ranking letter regardless of where you are from - it's written on their website under the instructions section.

That's right (http://web.law.columbia.edu/admissions/graduate-legal-studies/llm-program/application-instructions/application-components): " If your rank does not appear on your transcript, include a separate, official statement of rank from your law school. If your law school does not rank its graduates, include an official statement from the law school to that effect."

Hi Guys,
Can anyone help me out. I have already submitted my transcripts to LSAC. I am now planning to submit a separate letter from my University attesting to the fact that it does not include class rankings. Therefore, I ask will this statement need to be enclosed with any thing else such as a transcript request form or will a letter sealed with the Law School's seal mailed directly to you suffice?
Thanks a lot in advance!

I strongly recommend you to email admissions office and ask for their guidance. It's worthless to provide you with general guidance when each school behaves differently. I'm a bit surprised they've suddenly become so strict on this point, since they perfectly know that not every state adopts rankings domestically
