LSAC: unknown universities from Brazil

odieg

Does anyone know if the chances to be accepted in a TOP 10 LLM program is higher if you have studied at a known well university in your country? I have graduated from a unknown university in Brazil, probably the third or forth best university in my state.

Although I have good grades (80-100), this law school is not a top 10 in Brazil. Furthermore, I was wondering if this really matter to LSAC and if they have a score system in order to make a ranking or something like that.

In this case, what is the best choice: 1 - send the diploma direct to the universities, considering that the admission staff can not distinguish if your law school is a top 10 or not in your country?; 2 - send the diploma direct to LSAC anyway and wait for good news?

In addition, how to make your credentials look better than really are?

Tks.

@odieg The university I went to is not one of the most popular in Brazil. I mean, specially if you ask people living in the Rio-São Paulo axis for the best school, they will probably not think of mine first.

But there are many ways to evaluate how good a school really is. Try scores in ENADE, try state scores, try performance in OAB exams (mine is always ranked either 1st or 2nd in those, nationwide), try well-known teachers and scholars that either are part of the university today or graduated in it. Little by little, you'll see that your school - though not one of the popular schools in Brazil - is very commendable if evaluated by other criteria.

Also, I would ask your dean (or the next best thing, maybe the Law School Director or Vice-Director - but not a Coordinator of sorts) to write a letter to the Law School you're applying for, telling them about the course, about its qualifications, about the grading system (that is very important) and about you in particular. That letter must be sent by your university (ask them to send it with your diploma, your honors, your official transcripts, all of those accompanied by official translations) - it must have your law school insignia or logo, and the envelope must be the university's envelope.

PM me if you need any help.
