well, concentrage on making money because the llm in the us is quite expensive. Besides that, the most important criteria is that you are a strong candidate - in which area you will be strong is less important. So basically, tell us a bit more about you and what you expect from your law degree and then it will be much easier to give you a few ideason what to do....

thank you for replying.
well. i am good at research. my grades are decent. i have been working on them, will continue to do that, as i understand the importance of academic proficiency.
i have been working with a few firms in different areas to get an idea as to what the various fields are.

well for top universities it is most important that in any field you choose you are one of the best. So first of all you should find a focus area and than continue with that

if you are in the top 10% of your class and start planing now than you have actually great chances to get into nearly any llm... I started also 2 years previous to my graduation and got into any top university which I applied to including HLS :)

yes that is idea.:)
the only thing is that i have not decided on a course yet. so i have restricted myself to only research on school, as for as the planning goes. do you have any insights on as to how i should proceed as i have three years before graduation.

that LLM makes sense as much as an llm in beach volleyball law ...
Also, there are nearly no scholarships exept a few which usually go to the best of the best. The only thing there is, are discounts. And it really is not a scholarship or anything else but a discount if a law school offers you 25 000 dollar but charges you 50 000 dollar tuition. To recieve a discount you as a candidate usually have to be better than what the law school program is worth. Lets say you clerked in a distritct court in your country, have published 2 law review articles and were top 15% of your class. You are a good candidate but not good enough for HLS,YLS,SLS and the other few schools that give need based discounts. You got with this credentials into berkley and cornell without a scholarship because that is about the level you are worth. But you also got a decent offer from the University of Iowa (discount 20 000 from 60 000 tuition) and a even better offer from the University of Oklahoma ( 30 000 discount from 55 000 tuition). At last you got an offer from Southern Illinois University for 45 000 discount on 55 000 tuition). In the end you will se not a single cent from any university , it is just how much you are going to pay to them. The better a candidate you are the more discount you will get but at the same time the cheaper the llm has to be the less will it be worth for your personal situation (measured by prestige, I would not judge any of the programs by quality but quality is not the most important thing for most candidates).

If that sounds to you like llm in beach volleyball law..then I never heard a lame answer like yours. I did my grad with specialisation in energy laws and currently working with oil and gas exploration company. So certainly a llm in oil and gas will be an add on. Nd talking about scolarships I 'll surely manage something. My main concern is job..so please someone with knowledge of energy sector, reply.

I did not say that the sector is bad or that they don`t need good lawyers, I just said that the LLM is worth about the same as a beach volleyball llm. You will learn much more about the sector by just working than going to such an LLM. But good luck with the llm , you will really need it
