Hi

I am from India. I have completed my llb from Mumbai University. I want to do LLM in America as i am planning to settle there. I had few quests. Please if anyone can guide me.

i wanted to know the popular career choice in law in america as in what should i specialize in.? which has demand in america like the type of lawyers which are highly paid ? i am a bit interested in trying for corporate lawyer but dont know if it has that scope there..
what are the requirements for getting admission in top law school other than grades. ? Are there two intakes in law school in a year? if yes than in which month the law school starts ? i have heard about august..
please please help me how should i proceed....

regards

honestly , you should not apply for an LLM. chances that you will get a job in the US are maybe 1% if you are lucky. If you want a highly paid one your chances are 1:5 000, a bit better if you go to a top program(H/Y/S/C/C)...

Honestly , your only chance is to go into one of the top tax llm programs in the country (NYU, Florida, to some extend harvards tax concentration in combination with the bar exam...) and then accept a mediocre job with crazy hours in a large accounting firm. You will not become rich, your work life balance will be poor and even in this combination there is no guarantee that you will be able to stay in the us long term.

If you are accepted for a top 14 JD you have a chance, else I would not invest that much money... if you go for an llm go for tax law at NYU or florida and you will have a good chance for a bad job with avarage pay for 80h/weeks

You have two options:

1) Go for a highly specialized LLM like Tax/M& A,IPR etc get a GPA of 3.0(minimum) which will allow you to transfer for a JD and then give the bar (this is a cheaper option of minimum 50000$ initial) or;

2) Give LSAT and go for a JD now because You want to settle there and its better that you have a JD than a LLM. You might get some credits for your initial law degree but that also depends.For this you might have to spend minimum 90000$ upfront.

Yes,an accelerated JD allows you to practice law in America provided you pass the bar and have the right visa status and the same goes for a LLM.
