matreshka,
You should e-mail admissions office "as soon as possible", because the deadline set by the committee is April 1.
Tell them to send the formal letter and deposit form to you by FAX. You can pay the deposit by inform them of your credit card number.
By the way, you arent the only person who havent received the admission packet. Some of my friends and I havent either, though I have already paid deposit by the way mentioned above.
I'm sure they must be using terrible mailing service...

where are you from - are you certain to go to Columbia ?
Posted Mar 23, 2005 15:03
I'm from Japan.
Still waiting for HLS to come as well.
CLS's admissions didnt answer to my petition for extensition.
So I decided to pay the deposit to secure my place.
I'll waive the deposit if I get admission from HLS

Matreshka,
Please do not listen to H F's advice. Do you actually think that the deadline for Columbia is April 1 for those who have not received an acceptance letter by that date?

I have no idea, but I think that its better not to be too relaxed about this.
What is the deposit amout for Columbia? Maybe we should try to give them a call and explain the situation?

500 dollar btw - I just posted a message on the other board (about NYU v. Col)

I have just called Columbia. They told me that the deadline for my deposit payment is April 8. As far as I understand the deadline is set on the individual basis and depends on the day when the first admission e-mail was sent to a particular applicant.
I advise people who are still waiting for the formal letters from Columbia not to hurry with the payment of the deposit and better give a call to the Executive Secretary in order to find out the specific deadline for their deposit payment.

Hello,
For people who hesitate between an LLM in NYU or Columbia, rather go to Columbia if you can. I don't know about business, but in our field, the LLM in NYU is very big (you will have 20 swiss, 30 french and 40 german for instance) while the one in Columbia is much smaller. An LLM in Columbia is much better considered than one in NYU. Ok, location is better for NYU, but is that really an issue...

The argument about the size of a program is not too convincing, at least for me. I am sure that there will not be too many Russians, anyway. :)))
I'll try to talk to as many authoritative people as I can with respect to the Columbia/NYU issue and inform all of the interested parties on the results. Maybe I will even manage to draft a short memo on the pros and cons of both schools.
