Tom,
In the US? Cornell definitely.
Why? Because of the US. Law and Bar.

What happens if one maked the acceptance deposit and then changes his mind?

Congratulations Vakil on your acceptance to Columbia. It is my humble opinion that Columbia has the best LLM program in the US, if not the world. Did the e-mail mention anything about financial assistance, assuming of course you requested aid? I am growing increasingly restless waiting for a #%*! response.

teams
thanks for your advice ! you're probably right, it will be the US for me then !

I think you should be able to recover your deposit, especially if the deadline for answers is not too far away. Good luck ! (and if not, remember it's still great to have the choice between several schools !)

I just received an e-mail from Northwestern University, exactelly as they promised in the application check: 8 weeks after I sent my online application.
So far admitted also at Duke, Virginia, Toronto, Upenn and Georgetown, Cornell.
Seriously, I had really bad transcripts, and I am asking myself: Do they reject at all? Anybody got a rejection from those Universities or all we all just always welcomed cash cows? It looks more like a fight for students and not for admissions, maybe not in the top 6 schools...
Still waiting for Berkeley though, somebody got news from there?

The question has crossed my mind, too. Maybe you're right for some universities, but I don't think for example that universities with small programs (UPenn 80, Chicago 50..) have that on their mind.
And I wonder what you call a top 6 school.. Where do you put Chicago, Cornell, UPenn, Virginia? I guess at least one of 'em should be top 6, no?

Hi teams,
yes, there a rejections. I got one from Georgetown.
From NWU (Business LL.M. / Kellogg) I got an admission quiet early (one week after completing my files).
From USC, Boston and UCLA I got also admissions.
But still waiting for any response from HLS, NYU and UMich.
Did anyone already get an admission from one of these schools ???

Hi Joe75,
I received an admission offer from UMich 2 days ago by e-mail. I must say that the letter was very short and did not even mention the deadline for the answer to the offer. Therefore, I am still waiting for the formal letter from them by normal mail. People on this discussion board started receiving admissions to UMich from February and as far as I understand the letters are still being sent.
If you look through the forum you will see that some of the people got admitted to HLS a pretty long time ago (beginning of February) and some just recently. I hope that HLS admission process is not over yet and we still have a chance. At least HLS staff said that all of the decisions will be made by March 25.
NYU did not reply to anyone yet and as far as I understand it does not plan to do so before April 1. I think that they donât have the rolling admission practice and make decisions on all applicants at the same time.
Luke/Dr. Jekkyl,
There is one issue that I canât figure out myself. Although the programs at UPenn, UVa and some other universities are pretty small, it seems to me that all the people from this discussion board who applied there were admitted. I donât understand how they manage to admit so many people. Of course it just may be a coincidence that all of the admitted students from these schools happen to be on this forum.

Does anyone get offer or rejection from UC Berkeley? One of my friends is still waiting for it and don't know how to respond to admissions from other schools.

That I was wondering about, too! I think it's strange, dunno if it's a coincidence.
My guess: probably they admit more students than they actually take into their program, because they know that a good part of those admitted will refuse their spot..
This strategy would permit them to inform more students about acceptation, which is good for the applicants because they know before the deadlines where they are admitted.
Well, dunno if that's understandable what I just wrote, but I don't know how to put it differently :-)

I agree completely with Dr Jekyll, they definitely admit more students than they have spots, because they know very well, that a big part of them will not accept their admission offer - for various reasons, financial reasons, and most likely because the student was also admitted to another school, which he/she prefers.
there's also another thing - there aren't really that many posters here, so it's not really that so many people were admitted, it's kind of an illusion. moreover, people who were rejected don't usually tend to speak about it openly (at least not all of them), on the other hand, it's always nice to share your joy with other people when admitted. that also might lead to a feeling that everybody has been admitted everywhere. that is certainly not true.

Hi Matreshka,
now I got also the same short admission e-mail from Ann Arbor without any further details (deadline etc.).
Thanks again for your information about this.

By the way, does anybody know whether it is better, in order to work in the US, to have an LLM from Cornell or Oxford ?
See you.
So far as I know, from a common law country, if you want to work in the US, UK LLM degree is useless. I went to UCL last 2003. But I still need a US LLM to take the NY bar exam. I am admitted to Columbia this year.

I
On another note, I was just informed by a friend who is a JD student at Columbia that the Admissions Committee will start releasing email decisions these week by batches of admissions, rejections and waitlists. Fellow Columbia applicants: cross your fingers and please let us know of any news!!!
Thank you very much wannaadmit for you accurate information on the admission process status in Columbia. Al least it was correct in my case.
I have just received an admission from Columbia. I am very happy cause it was one of my top choice schools. I hope that all of the people who are waiting for the Columbia replies will receive them pretty soon.
Still waiting for HLS and NYU. Have not heard from Berkeley.
Good mood for the day is guaranteed.

Maggie,
The NY Bar exam only requires a 3 year LLB from a common law country. An LLM in the USA is only necessary for non-common law countries and for states other than NY and California.

Hi everybody,
I've got offers from Michigan, Missouri-Columbia and UCL (UK). Still waiting for Cornell, Columbia, HLS, Yale, NY, Wake Forest, Cambrdige and LSE. Michigan has sent me several pages, including information on housing and so on. They want an answer before 29 March, but they say nothing about deposit, I just have to send my acceptance of admission by that date.
