Indians Applying for LL.M

greengills

I got an admission email from UCLA on the 16th. Sorry, just found this thread :P

Also, I have a question. I don't know if this has been asked before, I can't seem to find a post about this, but I wanted to ask - I've been offered both the NYU@NUS program and the traditional NYU LLM, which I think has been offered to other people on here as well. So which one are you guys taking? The scholarship for the NYU@NUS program does make a difference, but I'm still undecided about which offer to accept.

On top of that, I have offers from Chicago and UPenn among others as well, and still awaiting Columbia and Stanford.

Anybody else facing this dilemma?

Wow ! That's a dilemma I'd be glad to face. May I ask when you received the decision for the traditional llm from NYU ? I doubt if anyone on this thread has heard from Nyu yet. Maybe you should wait till you hear from everyone. Congratulations on your admission(s) :).

Hey, thanks :) I applied for the both New York and Singapore, with a preference for New York. I was offered the NYU@NUS program, and in my admission letter they said if I don't accept the Singapore offer I'll receive a formal offer for New York later in March. I received the offer letter around the 14th of February I think. Unfortunately, I have to confirm about the singapore program by the 27th of this month, and hence the dilemma.

No they aren't out, at least as far as I know. The NYU@NUS results are out, which refer to the traditional LL.M.

I got into Berkeley! I have also applied to NYU and Stanford. Stanford I have been told is painfully tough to get into to!!

Thank you!

I'm much more keen on Georgetown because I like the school more also because I'd rather be on the east coast, though Berkeley is obviously a great school.

Having said that (based purely on personal preferences), I think the only two schools I would choose over Georgetown at this point (if I'm lucky enough to get in, keep your fingers crossed for me :)) are UPenn and Stanford.

My background is kind of eclectic, I was born and brought up in India, but did my first law degree as an undergraduate at Oxford in England (BA in Jurisprudence). I graduated in 2011 and came back to India - I've been working at a large corporate law firm in Mumbai ever since.

I got into UPenn and Cornell as well, so now definitely leaning towards Penn, though I'll decide for certain over the next couple of weeks.

Congratulations guys! I got through Columbia as well. Now I'm torn between Columbia, NYU, UPenn and Chicago. I'm interested in doing business law, so the Wharton certificate at UPenn makes that pretty tempting, but I'm not deciding yet. On the basis of the college and course itself though, I'm leaning towards Columbia. Any suggestions?

Congrats for making to Columbia and other top notch law schools.
However, I will suggest you to go for Columbia because it is well known for Commercial laws, located in NYC which need to be taken into account while considering job prospects and faculty, law school rankings.

The Traditional LL.M at NYU just came through :). Very happy but super confused as to why I should choose one over the other (Cambridge/NYU) for International Law. Has any of you who has gotten through varios programmes at NYU received information on the Hauser Scholarhsip yet ?

Cambridge v. Columbia v. NYU dilemma for me too. I intend to study transactional laws, and as SB9 says, Columbia is the ideal place to do so. Except, its also the most expensive :(

Hi,

Congrats to you all for making to awesome law schools. However, I will again suggest u all to go for Columbia because NYC is the best place to study and work. No doubt it is expensive but worth its cost. Further, U all will get placed with well known firms or places you planning to work at.

FACT: This is fiction. LLMs will *always* have a harder time than JDs landing any kind of legal work in the US. It is not impossible but it is harder. Have you noticed that US schools do not publish their % of LLMs employed after School but that they publish the % of JDs employed? Ever wonder why?

Congratulations to everyone who has been admitted to all the fantastic places!! :)

Don't know if this counts for anything but if I were you, my preference list would go this way- Cambridge>Columbia>Chicago>NYU>UPenn.
Hope that helps :) Best of luck!

Don't you feel that preferences can be a matter of choice GodBless!!! For example, I am interested in doing my LL.M in IP Laws and thus my preference list would be Stanford>NYU>Berkeley>Columbia>Duke>UPenn and Chicago will not even feature in that list!!!
