I am also Indian (but already in the US), I have NYU's offer and am likely to take it over Berkeley/Upenn/Duke and GWU.

thats a very good point to consider...can anyone help with that querry?
especially because, naturally enough, a number of persons getting the nyu schols are exceedingly well qualified and would, therefore, have options at better univs like yale and possibly harvard...
logically if a schol fund generates a certain amount of money each year, I wud assume they wud utilize it to the full...
but i dont know..i think someone who has studied at nyu in past years mite have to help with this query...

The funds would get reabsorbed, not redistributed. It does not seem fair.

If some of you are accepting offers from Yale, you should write to the other universities to let them know that you will be going elsewhere

@ yueping -
I might be going to yale. It completely depends on which univ gives me the best funding package. So, I dont want to tell anyone that I am going elsewhere, unless I get to know how much funding the univ which is my first preference is willing to give me. I might go to NYU if Yale does not give me as much funding as NYU is.
As regards reallocation, the scholarship funds go to someone else if the person originally selected drops it. Thats what the letter says. The scholarship has to be accepted at the "earliest", and not later than May 1.

The deadlines for acceptance of offers from Columbia, Michigan and LSE have passed. I have informed them that I will not be going there. Whether I go to NYU or Yale, would depend on whether Yale gives me more aid than NYU.

ms, are you sure the Scholarships go to someonelse if the students dont take up the offer? thanks
Posted Mar 24, 2006 05:26
I am absolutely sure, cos my letter says so. It says that earlier, there was no deadline for accepting the offer. But, because of the schols lapsing due to people not taking it, they have set a deadline of May 1 for the candidates awarded with the schols to accept the same. They say that this will enable to give it to someone else. So, dont worry abt it.
