Harvard LLM Application Status Updates

That is really weird, I cannot explain it at all, and even weirder is that I sent three professors emails (I was acquainted with two of them earlier though) and all of them responded to my emails. I do not know what to make of all these discrepancies, makes me more anxious now.

Are you an American JD or an international student? Sounds like they like you. I'd be surprised, based solely upon your recent posts (obviously I don't know the substance of your application), if your application is not viewed favorably.

A while ago. I also contacted a professor recently to ask about his/her availability to serve as an advisor. That, too, went ignored. Hope it's not a harbinger for what's to come.

What do you mean by asking a prof to act as 'advisor' ?

Given that numerous faculty are very well-known, my inquiry was about availability to serve as a thesis advisor. I'm not sure that all professors are able or willing to take on LLM candidates who are interested in independent research. My query was limited to whether the professor has in the past done so in the hope of better ascertaining and narrowing my research interests. Without the benefit of a response, I proceeded accordingly.

Understood - but is it usual for this to form part of the application?

@ lextra, how was your conversation when you called the admissions office? I called and I wish I had not! OMFG, that was a mistake on my part, the lady did not seem too happy being bothered. But HLS should fix their damn online application system, IT IS HORRIBLE!!!

I mentioned it in response to someone saying that they received communications from the admissions office and to give a contrasting experience in which my inquiries received no responses. No, I don't believe that it is necessary part of the application process. I simply inquired on my own in the hope of receiving a response that could provide additional guidance. Having not received a response, I proceeded as planned with the application. Hopefully I put my best foot forward and will hear good news.

I am a bit perplexed that the admissions office was open before 9:00 am EST though, but I am sure they are busy reviewing an abundance of applications.

One small question: since I have submitted my application, I have two new publications in some prestigous law reviews of my country. Should I send the admissions office an e-mail to give them an update on this? And if so, which address (the website does not give much information on this). Thanks and good luck with the admission process

Personally, I would not send supplemental materials unless your status has changed such that you are under an ethical obligation in your jurisdiction to engage in candid communication (such as if your bar status has changed because you have been admitted to practice in a new jurisdiction, have gone inactive in a jurisdiction, etc.). I have submitted "supplemental" materials in the past (not to LLM admissions programs) and do not believe that they necessarily enhanced my original application. Others may disagree.

Triple, she was really nice (or at least I did not detect any annoyance!) - actually when I first rang it went to voicemail, but I redialled for some reason, forgetting that it was quite so early there; in my head it was 9 or 10. I think it was the same person as I spoke to once before when I rang up to check that they'd retain supporting materials received before the main electronic application. She updated my tracker so it doesn't show the transcript request any more and said she'd put a note on the file explaining I'd called to clarify and would get the uni to send a letter explaining the program. I probably deserved an earful calling so early on a Monday morning :S

Aaargh! Still no development on the tracker - and no completion email either. Ever since some people here posted a reply saying that they had received a completion email and that the status of online recos had changed to 'received', i've been checking the tracker every few hours with no luck.

Econ Rights,

Could you please cut and paste the "complete" e-mail that you received? JSD, it appears that no one else has received said e-mail. I stopped checking the tracker a while ago because it seems pretty futile. That said, I probably should check it again....

No "complete" mail either though in the "track status" everything has been received.

My guess is that they only send this E-mail to people who have sent their candidature via-paper.

Haven't everyone's online recommendations changed from 'submitted' to 'received' (on the recommendations page, not the main tracker)?

Don't expect a completion email. If you submitted through the online system they indicated they will not issue completion emails. I think Econ rights is an exception because it was a paper application thus harder to check that all components are there without the tracker. (Checking the tracker regularly does seem advisable, though, you don't wanna miss any 'comments to applicant'!)

Nope, still submitted...

Hope that helps you guys, however I think due to the online submission being new and being used for the first time might be why no one else is getting it. However, I think if any of you had any problem, HLS would have already contacted you so I would advise you just relax and be patient.
