Just wanted to see who out there is planning on heading to Georgetown this fall for the Tax LL.M. program. I haven't recieved any word from NYU yet, but even if that doesn't work out, I'm pretty happy with Georgetown. Also haven't heard from Florida, but I think I'll choose Georgetown even if Florida offers me a spot because based on my research at large firms in Texas, their tax groups are filled with NYU and Georgetown LL.M.'s, but hardly any from Florida.
Georgetown Tax LL.M. accepted students check in here!

I applied in mid-january. My file became complete at the beginning of February/late January, but I have not heard anything from them. I called yesterday, and was told by the representative on the phone that my application was currently "with the committee" (i.e., still in review), and that a decision had not yet been made.
Can you tell me why you will choose Georgetown over UF? Just curious if your reasoning is the same as my own. Also, are you a domestic or foreign student?

Hi, I am a domestic. Well there are several reasons why I chose G over UF. First of all, all the professors at my law school told me to go to g-town. Even though UF is ranked 2nd, most ppl (non-tax ppl) outside florida don't know about the program. Just ask your relatives, that what i did. When i told them i got into g-town, they were like all great!! and when i told them about uf...they are like oh okay. see the difference? i imagine that's what most clients will say right? just my thinking.
also i have no desire to practice in florida. i want to practice in ny or chicago or dc...mostly the east coast areas. i am also not a big fan of the weather and bugs at florida. so that's why i picked g over uf. but ofcourse, nyu would be my best option...

I completely agree. Like I said, in my research it seems that most firms also feel that way. An example is the Tax Interview Program that is open only to NYU and Georgetown students. I don't know if there is anything similar at Florida, but is so, I'm not aware of it. I also think that NYU is the best, but what disparity do you think there is between Georgetown and NYU in terms of job potential? It seems to me that if we end up at Georgetown, we still have a great shot at landing a job at a large firm. Also, if you don't mind me asking, where did/do you go to law school and undergrad? What was your undergrad degree? What kind of numbers (grades, journals, etc.) do you have?

I will also be going to G-Town next year. I sent in my money last week. It is the only program that I applied to. I went to undergrad and law school here in DC and I really don't like New York and did not want to move there even for a year. If anyone has any questions about living in DC or anything about DC give me a pm.

Is anyone doing a certificate. Just got in to GT, and going to go over UF. Didn't apply to NYU. Thinking about the certificate in employee benefits. Anyone else?
