Georgetown LL.M. 2014-2015

Hey,

I just got an email informing me I've been admitted to Georgetown's LL.M. program to begin next year. They really caught me off gaurd as I wasn't expecting to hear anything from any school till at least January... This is really quick, right?... Has anyone else heared anything from them or from any other school for that matter?

I primarily wonder about scholarships. The acceptance letter I got had nothing to say about financial aid, and I wonder if that means I simply was non selected to get anything or rather that it is too early to talk about that? I should probably email them and ask, but was just wondering if anyone on here is experiencing a similar predicament?

I tried to send you a PM but it does not send it for a reason. I don't know why. Georgetown was pretty quick!!

I don't actually remember right now whether I applied for a scholarship for Georgetown but I read in previous years' posts that they announce the decisions regarding scholarships in early January.

We have time to accept the admission until March, right?

I reviewed my submitted application again - there was no specific place where you could request a scholarship or financial aid. However on their website they do note that they offer "general scholarships for international students" - see here: https://www.law.georgetown.edu/admissions-financial-aid/graduate-admissions/fellowships-scholarships-financialaid/General-Scholarships-for-International-Students.cfm

So I guess this means we are considered for these scholarships automatically, without submitting additional forms. Thats why I am wondering when that process is scheduled to take place. As you suggested I'll look at some of the previous years' posts to see what I can dig up.

In terms of deadline for acceptance, the email didn't say but I believe its March. They said the package sent via regular mail should have that information. In any event I'm not planning on giving them an answer in the near future.. there are still lots of schools to go and for me at least the question of a possible scholarship will play a significant factor.

Just to update you.. contacted Georgetown and asked some questions, these are the answers I got:

The first deposit deadline to confirm your intent to enroll will be April 1, and the second deposit deadline is May 1.

Our scholarship committee will begin considering merit scholarship awards in January, with awards going out beginning in mid/late January and continuing into March.

Cheers..

Hey!
Thanks for the update! Great to hear that we will have enough time to hear from all other schools. Technically I may finance my Llm but having a merit scholarship of course would change my decisions regarding the schools. One year will be enough financial loss for me and plus paying for my own financial loss is not very smart:) However, I am sure it's worth it! Btw, Cornell marked my application complete:) any other news from schools on your side?

Hey Chinaman,

Congrats!!! Will you be waiting from other school? :) If I am not admitted to the other ones, I will be enrolling to Georgetown. Maybe we'll meet there!

Well the main problem is that Georgetown might be too expensive for me.
Also I have already heard from another program that I really have my heart set on, which is much cheaper. So it all comes down to whether they will subsidize my education.
But I am glad they are being so quick about the decisions. :)

Oh. Great. From the experiences on this thread it seems that you will know by the end of the month.
Just out of curiousity, are there any subjects you want to specialize in?

That's also what I anticipate - a decision by month's end.

I applied for the NSL program. Looks like there aren't many similar applicants here.
