Thank you!

Hi all - I'm a foreign trained lawyer and applied for Georgetown's General LLM on 30 December 2017 (pretty late in the game!).

I just got an offer today :) So good luck to you all!

Hi guys. I'm new here. I would like to apply to LLM at Georgetown but wonder if they offer a place to candidates with British Upper Second (2:1). If anyone knows, could you please share your opinion. Thank you!

Yes, definitely apply! My first degree is law is from New Zealand and I had good but definitely not stellar grades (lots of Bs!), but three years of excellent work experience (working as a barrister) and good extra-curriculars (working with pro-bono organisations while at law school, got a paper published, worked on a student law journal). I only applied to Georgetown on 30 Dec 2017 and just got an offer today. So you should go for it!

Thank you! Such a nice surprise. Now to wait for responses from about 10 more law schools, haha.

Has anyone received acceptance package by post/snail mail?

Nope. Apparently they really mean it when they say they will post the acceptance package in the following "months". I also looked up at the application status page (they have a section for mailings) but it's blank.

Hey guys, if given offers by UCL, LSE and Georgetown for LLM International Business Law, which one would you go for? I'm concered about the money for Georgetown so is the prestige really quite high in the US?

I am not sure about getting accepted since my TOEFL score doesn't match the requirements but I am just wondering if it's possible to apply now and send the new score later ? I only have one chance in February to take the test again, has anyone experienced this situation before ? do they accept the latest score after the regular deadline ?

According to USNews ranking, Georgetown is a Top-15 law school in overall rankings and #2 in International Law (behind NYU only), so yes, it's got the prestige, particularly on your field. This ranking is only for schools in the US, but I would place all schools in the same ballpark.

I think that choosing between Georgetown or the British schools comes down to where you intend to practice and to create you network.

I had the same concerns about the costs of studying in the US, but I decided to apply to Georgetown and NYU only because I believe American schools would provide me the type of professional network that I look for.

What do you mean by not matching the requirements? You may be accepted despite not having achieved the minimum grades required on all sections (e.g. 25 in speaking/writing is not that easy), depending on your overall mark the rest of your application. So it’s better to apply even if you don’t take another exam.

In case you do take the exam again, they will receive a notification even after the deadline and probably are going to take it in consideration. Good luck.

Hi, I got the admission offer on the 12th of Jan. I applied for the regular cycle; submitted the application on the 22nd of December.

Is there any disadvantages for applying late (before the deadline) for the regular cycle?

I would say that the only disadvantage is your application being reviewed later.

As Georgetown's website states: "Because of the large number of applications we receive and our rolling admissions system, it is to your advantage to complete your application as early as possible in the application cycle. Please note that applications will not be reviewed until all required documentation has been received."

However, if you were to submit your application after the deadline, then you would only be considered on a space-available basis, which the website also informs: "Late applications may be submitted after the regular action deadlines listed above, but will be considered on a space-available basis. For applications submitted after the regular application deadlines, the application fee will increase to $100."

Other than that, I don't think there's any other difference. Good luck!

My package was scheduled to arrive today, but got stuck at customs because inspectors went on a strike. What a way to start a Taxation LLM!

Well, in my personal case, I applied via the general cycle mid-December (I think it was on the 11th), and received my admission decision via email on January 5. I would say they send out decisions pretty quick. Also, yesterday I received the FedEx notification re. the admission package.
